摘要： Disclosed is a thermal transfer printer which makes it possible to perform both recording using an ink ribbon coated with a hot melt ink and recording using an ink ribbon coated with a hot sublimation ink. In the thermal transfer printer, a thermal head mounted on a carriage is driven to thereby effect printing on printing paper while moving the carriage with the thermal head being held in press contact with a platen through the intermediation of an ink ribbon and printing paper, wherein the thermal transfer printer further comprises a control section which makes it possible to selectively switch, in accordance with a mode signal, between a first recording mode in which printing by hot melt transfer is effected on the printing paper by using a hot melt type ink ribbon as the ink ribbon and a second recording mode in which printing by hot sublimation transfer is effected on the printing paper by using a hot sublimation type ink ribbon as the ink ribbon.

摘要： Apparatus is disclosed for use with printers (or plotters) for storing and transferring ink-containing ribbon cassettes between a print head and a storage location. The printers (or plotters) are of the type which include a print head that is not as wide as the width of the medium to be printed on so that the print head has to be moved to print (or plot) across the full width of the medium. The apparatus automatically removes a cassette mounted to the movable carriage to which the print head is also mounted and deposits it in the storage station, and automatically removes a selected cassette from the storage station and deposits it on the print carriage. The apparatus includes cassette holders at the storage location and a cassette holder mounted to the print carriage. The storage station is positioned in or adjacent the path of travel of the print carriage, and the apparatus holding the cassettes at the storage station may be indexed to position a particular cassette holder into alignment with the cassette holder mounted to the carriage. The cassette holders have cooperating structure which automatically engage each other when the holders are aligned and are moved one into the other to automatically and directly transfer a cassette from one holder to the other.

摘要： A thermal printer including a thermal printer and a thermal head wherein a clearance between the platen and the thermal head is not less than a maximum diameter of one roll of an ink filled ribbon set by a thermal head driving motor. A ribbon cassette is moved to a printing position and, after a printing operation has been completed to another ribbon cassette. A guiding arrangement for positioning the ribbon cassettes in predetermined positions is adapted to be rotatably driven by a ribbon cassette motor and a plate for supplying the ribbon cassette and receiving the ribbon cassetts. The plate is joined to a take-up end portion of the ribbon cassette and the guiding arrangement is adapted to be moved in the forward and rearward direction for supplying the ribbon cassette and receiving the ribbon cassette by a transfer belt which can be moved by a cassette-moving motor. The guiding arrangement is adapted to be changed by withdrawing from the ink ribbon to another ink ribbon by a fixing member which is adapted to be moved by a ribbon cassette motor. A plurality of ribbon cassettes can be selectively used so that an unnecessary feeding of the ink ribbon can be avoided.

摘要： A ribbon cassette, such as in inked ribbon for a printing machine, has a supply spool and a take-up spool. An unwinding force is applied to the ribbon and the take-up spool is driven from the supply spool through a slip coupling. The configuration of the driving connection between the spools is such as to lead to a theoretical speed of the take-up spool which is always geater than is actually needed to match the speed of unwinding from the supply spool. Slip however occurs to match the speeds and to maintain tension in the ribbon.
