    • A belt structure including a carrier formed from a plurality of intermeshing spiral coils with adjacent coils interconnected by hinge yarns. The spiral coil carrier is plated under tension and heated to cause the spiral coils to extend longitudinally to define spaced upper and lower substantially flat surfaces. A yieldable, porous batt of synthetic fibrous material is needled into and onto one surface of the carrier. As an alternative structure, a yieldable, porous, open cell foam is applied to the spiral coil carrier to fill the interior thereof, and to extend outwardly from one surface to form an outer foam layer. The belts are particularly suitable as pressure and transporting belts in a corrugating machine, but can also be used in wet press and dryer sections of papermaking machines.

    • A tool or apparatus for preparing a fabric reinforced flexible hose or fabric reinforced conveyor belt for splicing by removing or stripping the elastomeric material forming the hose or belt from the fabric cords. The tool includes a knife disposed transversely of the hose or belt and movable longitudinally thereof while engaged with and partially penetrating the hose or belt for stripping the elastomeric material from the fabric, thus leaving and exposing the longitudinal cords on the end of the hose or belt thereby enabling a splice to be made. The knife is adjustable toward and away from the hose or belt and moves in an arcuate path about a center of an arcuate supporting surface or anvil for the hose or belt. The knife is mounted on an elongated actuating handle to enable sufficient force to be exerted on the knife to strip the elastomeric material from the fabric.

    • An apparatus for heating and compressing an elongated article ls provided. The invention comprises the use of a plurality of individual press units which are heated; the press units are moved into heating and compression relationship with opposed surfaces of the article; each press unit is moved successively into engagement with the article and into contacting end to end relationship with the previous press unit, the units being moved relative to the surface only in a direction perpendicular to the surfaces when in contact with the surfaces; the press units and the article are moved stepwise in the direction of the length of the article; the press units are continuously maintained in contact with the article until the end of the heating and compressing cycle; with the press unit finally successively being moved out of engagement with the thus produced elongated article.
