摘要： A casting core for an airfoil according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a first portion extending in a first direction and corresponding to a first cavity of an airfoil. The first portion defines a reference plane along a parting line formed by a casting die. The first portion defines a plurality of grooves corresponding to a plurality of trip strips of the airfoil. Each of the plurality of grooves defines a respective groove axis, and the plurality of grooves are distributed in the first direction along a first side of the reference plane such that one or more of the groove axes are oriented with respect to a pull direction of the casting die. A method for fabricating a gas turbine engine component is also disclosed.

The component has voids greater than 0 percent but less than approximately 15 percent by volume and up to 15 percent additional material by volume in the near finished shape compared to a desired finished configuration. Also included are a ceramic core disposed within the internal passageway of the component and an outer ceramic shell mold encasing an entirety of the component, such that an entire external surface of the component is covered by the outer ceramic shell mold.

摘要： A method for manufacturing a railcar coupler knuckle includes, before casting, positioning an external chill within a cope mold portion and a drag mold portion offset from and adjacent internal walls of a pulling face and a throat of the cope and drag mold portions, thus producing a casting with reduced micro-shrinkage in at least the throat, a high-stress section of the casting. Use of subsurface chills produces an improved surface with fewer inclusions when compared to an equivalent surface produced in a process without use of a subsurface chill. The external chill may be a cone chill of a larger size to improve cooling and solidification at and below the surface. The external chill may also be a cylindrical and/or oblong chill with a tapered design that may correspond to the internal walls of the cope and drag mold portions between the pulling face and the throat.

摘要： An investment casting process for a hollow component such as a gas turbine blade utilizing a ceramic core (10) that is cast in a flexible mold (24) using a low pressure, vibration assisted casting process. The flexible mold is cast from a master tool (14) machined from soft metal using a relatively low precision machining process, with relatively higher precision surfaces being defined by a precision formed insert (22) incorporated into the master tool. A plurality of identical flexible molds may be formed from a single master tool in order to permit the production of ceramic cores at a desired rate with a desired degree of part-to-part precision.

摘要： A method of forming a metal single crystal turbine component with internal passageways includes forming a polycrystalline turbine blade with internal passageways by additive manufacturing and filling the passageways with a core ceramic slurry. The ceramic slurry is then treated to harden the core and the turbine component is encased in a ceramic shell which is treated to form a ceramic mold. The turbine component in the mold is then melted and directionally solidified in the form of a single crystal. The outer shell and inner ceramic core are then removed to form a finished single crystal turbine component with internal passageways.
