摘要： A three stage centrifuge especially adapted to the separation of oil, water, and solid particles in an emulsion. As an example, the centrifuge may be used to separate sediment and water from a petroleum product such as crude oil. The three stage centrifuge includes a rotatable bowl that spins the emulsion to separate the fluid oil and water into separate pools within the bowl. The solid particles are also moved radially outward within the rotatable bowl by centrifugal force. A conveyor auger contacts the solid particles and discharges the solids from the rotatable bowl through a solids discharge port. Oil discharge tubes contact the oil pool confined between oil baffle plates on the conveyor auger and allow the oil to be discharged from the rotatable bowl. Water weirs contact the water pool and allow the water to be discharged from the rotatable bowl.

A control system is provided for controlling at least one of the differential speed between the screw and shell and the speed of the shell in dependence upon the nature of the suspension being processed.

The suspension is centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a first lower flow stream and fluid components in a first upper flow stream. The first upper flow stream may be centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a second lower flow stream and fluid components in a second upper flow stream. The first lower flow stream, the second lower flow stream, or both, may be centrifuged about a substantially horizontal axis of rotation to separate water from stackable dry tailings. The method and system may be applied to separation of tailings or other suspensions.

It allows automatic control in which the operational condition of the centrifugal separator operates under optimal conditions according to the operational state of the furnace. The control device sets a variable range of a differential speed between the bowl and screw conveyor of the centrifugal separator, and variably controls the differential speed so concentrated sludge convey torque of the screw conveyor achieves a torque corresponding to a moisture content requested by the furnace within the variable range, when the differential speed varies within a certain previously set range and the concentrated sludge convey torque of the screw conveyor maintains the torque corresponding to the moisture content requested by the furnace for a certain period of time being previously set, changes a control value of the centrifugal force and the torque.
