    • A liquid filter for removing contaminants from liquids such as lubricating oil, water or fuel, comprising a filter housing (10), a filter element (15), a support body (16) and a slide valve (17), which, when closed, prevents liquid from flowing from an unfiltered liquid area or from a filtered liquid area to a filter outlet (24). When the filter housing is opened, the slide valve moves axially and opens the filter outlet (24) so that the filter housing can empty. The slide valve (17) is detachably snapped together with the support body (16), which in turn is connected to a housing cover (12). This enables the slide valve to be detached from the support body, and reduces the level of maintenance required by the liquid filter.

    • A fluid filter assembly incorporates a filter element and valve assembly within a filter housing and base plate. The filter element and valve assembly is a single pre-assembled unit which includes an anti-drainback valve seat and diaphragm, a by-pass valve assembly, a pleated paper filter element, and a spring endcap. The filter housing and base plate separably clamp together to enclose the filter element/valve cartridge which is replaceable, as a single assembly, once its filtering ability is degraded. The anti-drainback valve seat engages complementary features on the base plate to correctly align and position the filter/valve cartridge during assembly. Further, a recess within the top of the filter housing receives a protrusion on the filter element endcap to provide additional alignment and to provide pressure to seal the filter/valve cartridge to the base plate in a fluid-tight manner.

    • In a liquid filter comprising a filter housing having at least one liquid intake channel and at least one liquid return channel passing through a face wall of the filter housing that faces toward a filter connecting flange to which said filter housing is to be mounted, a releasable cover that closes the filter housing liquid-tight, an individually replaceable filter insert that can removed from the filter housing, and the improvement of a hollow fastening screw forming an axial liquid channel in communication with the liquid return channel and that can be rotated relative to the filter housing, the screw being centrally arranged in the face wall of the filter housing and serving to securely mount the filter housing to the filter connecting flange. Check valves can optionally be provided in the intake channel and in the hollow screw to prevent unwanted flow of liquid through the filter housing, particularly when changing the filter insert. Also, a bypass valve and a bypass filter may be provided to provide for liquid flow through the filter housing when the filter insert prevents sufficient passage of liquid therethrough resulting in an increased pressure across the filter insert.
