    • A method of operation of a servo writing system includes: initializing a disk and a head positioned over the disk for writing a servo pattern on the disk; calculating a target velocity profile for writing the servo pattern on the disk; setting a movement profile for operating the disk, the head, or a combination thereof to the target velocity profile; determining a back electromotive force from operating the disk, the head, or a combination thereof according to the movement profile; calculating an actual profile of the movement of the disk, the head, or a combination thereof from the back electromotive force; and adjusting the movement profile by the actual profile to match the actual profile to the target velocity profile for writing the servo pattern on the disk.

    • A network card testing method, used to test if the network card is capable of functioning normally in a computer having Extended Firmware Interface (EFI) system. Wherein, in a protocol assignment table is recorded the connection relations of a network protocol of Extended Firmware Interface, and a driver program corresponding to a network driver interface specification (NDIS) layer. In addition, the driver corresponding to the network card is loaded at the NDIS layer. In implementing the network card test program, though the utilization of an additionally written EFI pseudo program as a medium of transmitting data for the network card testing program, and also though the utilization of an additionally written intermediate filter driver in invoking a driver suitable for the network card, the hardware testing of network card can be realized, thus increasing the category and scope of the network card testing supported by an EFI system.

The method includes determining a resonant frequency of seek-induced vibration of the component part and a reference amplitude of a frequency-component in a first voice-coil-motor signal (VCMS) at the resonant frequency. The method also includes synthesizing a second VCMS with an amplitude of a frequency-component attenuated below the reference amplitude of the frequency-component in the first VCMS at a frequency in a resonance-band bracketing the resonant frequency. The method also includes driving a voice-coil of a voice-coil motor with the second VCMS to reduce an amplitude of a frequency-component at the resonant frequency in a second PES of the seek of the data track associated with the second VCMS below a reference amplitude of a frequency-component at the resonant frequency in the first PES associated with the first VCMS.

    • Harmonic selection for track following is described for a hard disk drive comprising at least one magnetic disk capable of storing data and spinning, a controller capable of controlling a read/write head capable of reading and writing data while following a track on a surface of the at least one magnetic disk, and a memory device capable of storing data relating to the operation of the hard disk drive. A drive function test on the hard disk drive is performed, during which harmonic frequencies are identified which cause disturbances for the hard disk drive. Data regarding the harmonic frequencies which cause the greatest disturbances for the hard disk drive is stored in the memory device. The data regarding the harmonic frequencies which cause the greatest disturbances is forwarded to the controller upon the at least one magnetic disk spinning.

    • Methods are provided for mechanically chopping nanotubes and other nanoscale fibrous materials. The method includes forming a macroscale article which include the nanoscale fibers, and then mechanically cutting the macroscale article into a finely divided form. In one embodiment, these steps are repeated. The nanoscale fibers may be carbon nanotubes, which optionally are aligned in the macroscale article. The macroscale article may be in the form of or include one or more buckypapers. In one embodiment, the macroscale article further includes a solid matrix material in which the nanoscale fibers are contained or dispersed. The forming step can include making a suspension of nanoscale fibers dispersed in a liquid medium and then solidifying the liquid medium to form the macroscale article. After the mechanical cutting step, the medium can be dissolved or melted to enable separation of the chopped nanoscale fibers from the medium.

A system file is backed up from the EFI of the hard disk into a storage area of a memory. The backup area of the system file is mapped as a real hard disk. A non-system file storage area is established in the memory, so as to store the non-system files of a hard disk test. Information of the system and non-system files of the hard disk test is acquired, so as to generate a system and a non-system file link table. When performing the test, the non-system files are backed up into the non-system file storage area. The system file link table and/or the non-system file link table is accessed, so as to load the system file and/or the non-system files directly from the storage area of the memory.
