    • An optical connector and splicer including an optical fiber positioning member for optical coupling of optical fibers where the coupling is assisted by at least two guide pins. The optical fiber positioning member comprises a substrate plate and a flat plate. The substrate plate has optical fiber grooves and guide pin grooves each formed at one surface thereof for positioning the one optical fibers and said guide pins, respectively. The flat plate has a flat surface confronting with the grooved surface of the substrate plate. An exposed area is formed on a part of the substrate plate where said flat plate is not joined for facilitating an insertion of the optical fibers into the optical fiber grooves. A method of the optical connector and splicer comprises the steps of: preparing a substrate plate assembly form a single wafer made of a hard and brittle material; continuously forming a predetermined pattern of optical fiber grooves and guide pin grooves on a surface of said substrate plate assembly; bonding at least one flat plate to said surface of said substrate plate assembly with an adhesive thin layer, so that optical fiber groove holes and guide pin groove holes are provided; cutting a bonded assembly into sections each having predetermined dimensions of said positioning member; and fixing the optical fibers in said optical fiber groove holes by bonding with an adhesive.

    • The present invention relates to an optical fiber positioning member, such as a ferrule, used for optically coupling optical fibers to each other. The object of the present invention is to provide an optical fiber positioning member having practically sufficient mechanical strength and long-term durability, while maintaining high dimensional precision and dimensional stability. The optical fiber positioning member of the present invention comprises a resin composition containing a polyphenylene sulfide resin at a ratio in the range of 15% to 35% by weight, silica particles at a ratio in the range of 45% to 65% by weight, and silicate whiskers at a ratio in the range of 26% to 35% by weight, the resin composition containing the silica particles and the silicate whiskers at a ratio in the range of 65% to 85% by weight.

    • An optical connector ferrule of this invention includes a holding portion arranged at a position along an inserting direction of optical fibers to constitute a front surface of the ferrule and having a plurality of first through holes for inserting the optical fibers therethrough and two second through holes for inserting guide pins, the holding portion holding portions of the optical fibers near distal ends thereof, the second through holes and the first through holes having central axes that are substantially parallel to each other, and the first through holes being arrayed in two rows in a direction connecting centers of the second through holes; and an optical fiber tape accommodating portion having an insertion opening for inserting therethrough optical fiber tapes having the optical fibers held by the holding portion, an internal space for partially accommodating the optical fiber tapes, and an injection opening for injecting therethrough an adhesive for adhering and fixing the inserted optical fiber tapes and the ferrule with each other. The optical connector ferrule is formed integrally by resin molding. When optical fiber tapes are inserted in this ferrule to be stacked in two layers and the ferrule and the optical fiber tapes are adhered and fixed to each other.

    • This invention is to provide a system having a mechanism for matching lines of sight between interlocutors through transmission means to realize smooth counseling between the interlocutors in remote areas. In this system, a terminal equipment is located at the point of each interlocutor, having a monitor for displaying at least the image of a partner, a position regulation means for regulating the position of the interlocutor with respect to a monitor screen, and an image pickup apparatus having an image pickup unit for picking up the image of the interlocutor and a support mechanism for setting the image pickup unit at a predetermined position between the interlocutor and the monitor. Particularly, the image pickup unit is set in a line-of-sight matching area defined by the distance from the interlocutor to the monitor, which is specified by the position regulation means, and a parallactic angle for determining that the line of sight of the interlocutor matches the line of sight of the monitor image of the partner.
