摘要： A method and apparatus for capturing and storing a decodable representation of a 1D or 2D bar code symbol using a hand-held bar code reader having only a 1D image sensor. A succession of 1D digital representations are produced as the reader is moved asynchronously across the symbol to be read. These representations are examined, substantially in real time, and, if the symbol is a 1D symbol, is decoded immediately. If the symbol is not a 1D symbol, these representations are examined for the presence of one of a variety of different types of 2D finder patterns and, when the finder has been identified, decoded with reference to that finder pattern.

摘要： A hand-held instrument for reading a bar code symbol, and analyzing the print quality of the code upon manually scanning the code has a graphic display. The display is driven by a computer which has memory (a block in RAM) in which a multiplicity of data samples representing the reflectance profile of the bar code pattern are entered at a constant rate. The print quality analysis is based upon these samples. The number (count) of these samples represents the duration of the elements (bars and spaces) constituting the code. When the number of samples in successive, adjacent characters (groups of elements, a string of which represents a valid code) differs by 25%, the display is driven to prompt the operator to scan the code again, but more evenly without jerky motion (accelerations or decelerations). When the capacity of the memory block allocated to the scan profile data samples is exceeded, the operator is prompted by the display to scan faster. When the average duration of the elements as represented by the average number of samples (counts) in a narrow element in the code is less than six samples, the operator is prompted by the display to scan slower.

摘要： A refreshable dynamic memory is used to drive a video display wherein each row of stored memory is accessed to provide one line of video. The memory row address counter is incremented a number of times during the horizontal retrace period to sequentially refresh a given number of memory rows before another row is displayed. The cycle is repeated until an entire field is displayed. A sufficient number of rows are refreshed during each line whereby the rows are refreshed continually within the storage time of the memory cells.

An automatic gain control is used to adjust the gain of a variable gain amplifier in the output circuit of the image sensor. A strobe lamp is used to illuminate the target during each imaging sequence. The feedback signal to the amplifier is compared to an upper and lower threshold and, in response thereto, the number of pulses generated during each illumination sequence are adjusted to maintain the video signal levels within a desired operating range.

In one embodiment a bar code verification device is provided having an ergonomic form factor characterized by a domed hand held trigger and a viewing window. The verification device may be disposed in a network that includes a host processor system and other bar code reading devices which may include other bar code verification devices. Processing circuitry for processing image signals corresponding to printed bar codes may be partially disposed within the hand held verification device and partially disposed within a host processor system spaced apart from and associated with the hand held verification device. The hand held verification device may be in wireless communication with the host processor system to which it is associated. The bar code verification system may include signal enhancement modules which interpolate constructed pixel values from actual pixel values and which correct for signal degradation resulting from high frequency spatial sampling.
