摘要： In a plasma display device comprising: plural first, second, and third electrodes disposed adjacently and extending in a first direction, the third electrodes being provided between the first and second electrodes for repeating discharges; a dielectric layer covering the electrodes; a first electrode driving circuit for driving the first electrodes; a second electrode driving circuit for driving the second electrodes; and a third electrode driving circuit for driving the third electrodes, grayscale display is performed by a sub-field method, and the third electrodes are set to have a potential approximately the same as that of the first or second electrode at the discharge in the repetitive discharges. In this plasma display device, the third electrode driving circuit makes the third electrode operate as an anode at least once at least in one sub-field from minimum luminance and makes it operate as a cathode in the rest thereof.

摘要： A multi-grayscale display device to appropriately control brightness of a display (screen) and power according to the content of a picture while preventing deterioration of image quality of a picture, so that both of these performances are improved. In a multi-grayscale processing unit of the display device (PDP device), in a subfield (SF) driving control, the number of pixels of low grayscales in an image of an input picture signal is detected and determined by an image number detection unit, and accordingly, a selection signal to switch one from outputs of a plural types of SF conversions of an SF conversion unit is determined and outputted by a switching unit. In the control, an SF conversion in which the number of rest SF becomes large as the number of pixels of low grayscales becomes small selected.

摘要： A plasma display panel in which firing voltages between any of electrodes are low can be realized. A plasma display panel has a first substrate and a second substrate. The first substrate has a group of laterally extending first electrodes for performing sustain discharge and a group of laterally extending second electrodes which can be independently driven, a group of third electrodes positioned between the first and second electrodes, a dielectric layer covering-them, a group of fourth electrodes extending vertically and provided on the dielectric layer, and a protective layer. The second substrate has barrier ribs provided in parallel to the fourth electrodes so as to divide at least the first to third electrodes in the extending directions, and phosphors for emitting light when excited by an ultraviolet ray.

摘要： A plasma display panel, the light emission efficiency of which has been improved without increasing the discharge start voltage, is disclosed. In a three-electrode type PDP, a fourth (Z) electrode is provided at the portion between a first (X) electrode and a second (Y) electrode between which a main discharge (a sustain discharge) is caused to occur for a display and at least one of the distance between the first electrode and the fourth electrode and the distance between the second electrode and the fourth electrode changes gradually in a cell.
