    • A head holder has an ink supply member projecting therefrom which serves to supply ink to a recording head. An ink cartridge is mounted on the head holder by inserting the ink supply member into the ink supply port. A capillary force generator made up of a plurality of small grooves is provided in an area extending from the lower end portion of a side wall portion in which the ink supply port is formed, to a portion adjacent to the ink absorber on the inner surface of the ink cartridge. When the cartridge is loaded, the ink supply member is pressed against the ink absorber, and ink which oozes or is forced from the compression of the ink absorber is trapped in a space at the lower side. However, the trapped ink is guided to and absorbed again by the ink absorber through the capillary action of the small grooves.

    • In a sealing member of an ink feed connecting member, an ink sealing section surrounds at least a part of an ink guide when an ink cartridge is not attached to the ink feed connecting member. The ink sealing member is disposed such that an opening of the ink sealing section is opposite to an ink feed port. The circumferential edge of the ink sealing member is invertedly deformed as the ink cartridge is attached to the ink feed connecting member. When the ink cartridge is fully attached to the ink feed connecting member, the ink sealing section enters the ink cartridge while an inner circumferential edge of the ink sealing member is in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the ink feed port. The surface of the inverted circumferential edge seals the inner peripheral surface of the ink feed port.

    • A printer comprises a platen, a guide shaft extended in parallel to the platen, a carriage supported on and guided by the guide shaft for sliding movement along the platen, a wheel holder including a motor holder holding a print wheel driving motor and supported on the carriage, and a print wheel cassette held on the wheel holder. The motor holder is supported on the carriage so as to be swingable on the guide shaft or about an axis parallel to the guide shaft by a predetermined angle between a working position, adjacent to the platen to position the wheel cassette held on the wheel holder for a printing operation, and a releasing position distant from the platen to remove the wheel cassette from the wheel holder. The wheel holder is formed by bending a lower portion of the motor holder so that the wheel cassette is seated thereon. Elastic members are attached to the carriage so as to press the wheel cassette resiliently against the wheel holder when the wheel cassette is inserted in the wheel holder and the motor holder is set in place at the working position, so that the wheel cassette is restrained from free movement and vibration during printing operation.

    • An ink cartridge includes a cartridge body, an ink supply portion and an air communication portion provided at the cartridge body, a block member and a slider. The air communication portion has an inner peripheral wall defining an air passage, and a communication port for allowing communication between an ink chamber and the air passage. The block member moves from a first position to a second position by contact with the slider sliding in a sliding direction to block and open the air passage. The slider includes: a first cylindrical portion having an upstream through-hole penetrating therethrough; a second cylindrical portion having a downstream through-hole penetrating therethrough and communicating with the upstream through-hole; and a semipermeable membrane closing the upstream through-hole. The slider has a contact portion in close contact with the inner peripheral wall and positioned upstream of the block member at the first position in the sliding direction.
