    • In ultrasound diagnosis, a contrast echo technique on three-dimensional scanning is used with a contrast agent injected into an object. Before injecting the contrast agent and under the injection thereof, a blood vessel is continuously and securely targeted and depicted in displayed images. To realize this, a diagnostic ultrasound apparatus has means for acquiring an echo signal by scanning a three-dimensional region of an object with an ultrasound beam, means for producing three-dimensional image data based on the echo signal, means for displaying the three-dimensional image data, means for specifying, for example, from the echo signal, a timing at which injecting an ultrasound contrast agent into a region to be scanned of the object is started, and means for switching over at the specified timing display states of the three-dimensional image data to be displayed by the displaying means. By way of example, the switchovers are carried out such that data produced by projecting the three-dimensional image data on a minimum intensity projection technique are displayed before injecting the contrast agent, while data produced by projecting them on a maximum intensity projection technique are displayed after the start of injecting the contrast agent.

    • An ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus includes an ultrasound probe, a transmitting device, a receiving device, a transmission control circuit, and an image generating unit. The transmission control circuit controls the transmitting device, so that an imaging region of a subject is scanned throughout with ultrasound during a scanning operation. The scanning operation is repeated, and ultrasound for collapsing micro-bubbles administered to the subject is transmitted in an interval between scanning operations. In a region where the ultrasound for collapsing micro-bubbles is transmitted, a greater number of micro-bubbles collapse than in the other region where the ultrasound for collapsing micro-bubbles is not transmitted. Accordingly, the contrast effect is partially reduced in the imaging region. Therefore, image data has a portion of a higher contrast effect and a portion of a lower contrast effect.

    • In performing harmonic echo imaging, the necessity of changing modes is obviated, maneuverability is improved, and diagnostic information of the kinetics of a blood flow is provided with high reliability. A diagnostic ultrasound system provides, by scanning a cross section of an object with an ultrasonic beam signal, a normal B-mode image (the first tomographic image) of a tissue and a harmonic-mode image (the second tomographic image) of distribution information of an ultrasonic contrast medium injected into the object. The distribution information is obtained based on a non-fundamental frequency component (e.g., second harmonics) other than a fundamental frequency component of the ultrasonic beam signal. The system comprises a unit for scanning an ultrasonic beam signal along the cross section to acquire an echo. The scanning unit controls the scan so that the beam signal is scanned automatically and alternately for each raster in both the normal B-mode and the harmonic-mode. Preferably, the scan in the harmonic-mode precedes that of the normal B-mode. Image data of the first and second tomographic images are visualized on the basis of the echo.
