    • A learning controller makes learning correction based on a time tST between start of a shift control routine and detection of start of a change in rotational speed of the transmission input shaft and further based on the amount of rotational speed change &ohgr;S′ at the detected start of the rotational speed change. When the time tST is longer than a basic time and when the rotational change amount &ohgr;S′ is too large, it is determined that a servo piston has not been sufficiently advanced and the shift control is corrected so that the time tST is lengthened. When the time tST to the detected start of the rotational speed change &ohgr;S′ is too small, it is determined that, while the piston has been advanced properly, the target engagement pressure PTA in torque phase control is too low because of a miscalculation, and the shift control is corrected so that the target engagement pressure is raised.

    • Connector housings (11, 12) to be mounted on a printed circuit board (100) have a plurality of rows of contacts (13, 14) extending from wall surfaces of the housing (11, 12). These contacts (13, 14) are soldered to conductive pads (23) of a flexible circuit (20). The flexible circuit (20), bent in a generally U-shaped, about an insertion portion (31) of a metallic guide portion (30) which is to be inserted between rows of contacts (50) of a mating connector (40) for interconnection therebetween. The guide member (30) preferably engages a ground conductor (176) on the reverse surface of the flexible substrate and includes extending portions (142) to groundingly engage conductive member (43, 124) positioned at both ends of the housing. In an alternate embodiment strengthening plates may be adhered to the flexible circuit between the opposed arrays of conductive pads and ground contact pads.

    • During transmission shifts, a band brake is used in either a self-loosening direction in which an engaging force thereof is not sensitive to variations in hydraulic pressure or a self-tightening direction in which the engaging force is sensitive to variations in hydraulic pressure. In the self-loosening direction, a second regulated hydraulic pressure generated by a second pressure regulating valve (B-4 control valve) in accordance with a control hydraulic pressure generated by a second (throttle-pressure-control) linear solenoid valve in a margin control region thereof is supplied to a hydraulic servo of the fourth brake (band brake). In this clutch-to-clutch shift, a first regulated hydraulic pressure generated by a first pressure regulating valve (a shift-pressure control valve) in accordance with a control hydraulic pressure generated by a first (pressure-regulation) linear solenoid valve is supplied to a hydraulic servo of a third (UD direct) clutch. In the self tightening direction, the first regulated hydraulic pressure generated by the first pressure regulating valve (the shift-pressure control valve) is supplied to the hydraulic servo of the fourth brake (band brake).
