    • A pulse detonation (PD) assembly includes a number of PD chambers adapted to expel respective detonation product streams and a number of barriers disposed between respective pairs of PD chambers. The barriers define, at least in part, a number of sectors that contain at least one PD chamber. A hybrid engine includes a number of PD chambers and barriers. The hybrid engine further includes a turbine assembly having at least one turbine stage, being in flow communication with the PD chambers and being configured to be at least partially driven by the detonation product streams. A segmented hybrid engine includes a number of PD chambers and segments configured to receive and direct the detonation product streams from respective PD chambers. The segmented hybrid engine further includes a turbine assembly configured to be at least partially driven by the detonation product streams.

    • An in-line particulate detector comprises a housing having an inner flow portion. The housing Is disposed between adjacent portions of pipeline to permit a fuel flow from a fuel source through the inner flow portion to a fuel consumer. A light source is positioned within the housing for emitting a light beam within the inner flow portion. A first photodetector is positioned within the housing to detect the full strength of the light beam. A second photodetector is positioned within the housing to detect low, baseline levels of the light beam. Circuitry is coupled to first and second photodetectors to monitor the ratio of light intensities. When a fuel containing particulates is introduced, the light beam is scattered and the intensity measured by the second photodetector will increase and the intensity measured by the first photodetector will decrease.

    • A variable length pre-mixer assembly comprises an upstream end for receiving compressed air from a compressor and a downstream end disposed in flow communication with a combustor. Pre-mixer assembly comprises an upstream forward clamp, a swirler assembly having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart vanes disposed adjacent the upstream end for swirling compressed air channeled therethrough. An elongate centerbody has a first end joined to and extending through the swirler and a second end disposed downstream therefrom. A downstream fuel nozzle shroud has an outlet in flow communication with the combustor. Additionally, at least one removably disposed fuel nozzle spacer is alternatively disposed between a first position between the upstream forward clamp and the swirler assembly and a second position between the swirler assembly and the downstream fuel nozzle so as to change the relative position of the swirler assembly and alter the pre-mixer assemblies acoustical resonance characteristics.

    • A dewpoint sensor comprises a pressure vessel having an entry port, an exit port, and a temperature controlled plate. A quartz crystal resonator is housed within the pressure vessel and disposed in intimate contact with the temperature controlled plate. A temperature sensor is disposed to generate signals representative of the quartz crystal resonator temperature. Circuitry is coupled to the quartz crystal resonator and the temperature sensor, which circuitry is configured to control the temperature of the quartz crystal resonator, to measure the frequency of the quartz crystal resonator and to monitor the temperature signals and the frequency of the quartz crystal resonator when exposed to a flow between the entry port and the exit port so as to calculate a dewpoint value of the flow.

    • A combustor comprises a hollow body defining a combustion chamber. The hollow body is typically annular in form and includes an outer liner, an inner liner, and an upstream dome plate. The dome plate includes a swirl cup with a mixer disposed therein to provide uniform mixing of fuel and air. The mixer comprises an inner swirler and an outer swirler that are mounted in the swirl cup. The outer swirler includes solid vanes. A shroud surrounds the mixer at the upstream end, which shroud includes an annular fuel chamber. The shroud further includes a number of axial fuel injection fuel injection openings that provide flow communication between the annular fuel chamber and the mixer and radially inject fuel within the mixer.
