    • A microcoil configuration, preferably on a medical device to be inserted into a patient, has an opposed pair of microcoils. At least one or each microcoil of the opposed pair of microcoils has at least a region where a diameter circumscribed by a first winding is greater than the diameter circumscribed by at least one complete second winding, especially an adjacent winding displaced from the first winding along an axis or core of the medical device or an axis of the microcoil. The second winding is nearer to or farther from an intermediate region between the microcoils that define the pair of microcoils. For example, it is common to have a connecting (usually straight or non-wound) lead between the two microcoils, and this lead may be used to define an intermediate region. The microcoil configuration with varying circumference between windings (especially adjacent windings) is generally referred to as a dumb-bell or horn configuration because of its general appearance and the individual microcoils are referred to as a horn microcoil, again because of the visual appearance of the microcoil. The configuration of the microcoils assists in defining the properties of an RF responsive field adjacent to the device.

    • Surgery is performed on a patient with a novel device by: excising tissue from tissue mass within a patient to create a cavity within the tissue mass; inserting a novel device of this invention into the cavity; shaping a flexible expandable component of the device to adjust dimensions on the flexible expandable component; providing a liquid into the component through the liquid input port; and controlling pressure or flow rate of the liquid in the component to move the liquid through the multiple openings and into the cavity. The device has a liquid inlet port, an exterior surface having length, width and depth, and multiple openings in the surface distributed throughout the length, width and depth to act as liquid delivery ports; the exterior surface of the liquid delivery device being shapeable by internal pneumatic pressure or hydraulic pressure to better fit inside dimensions of a surgical cavity; the multiple openings deliver the liquid through the multiple openings.

    • Acoustic waves exhibit force that pushes objects along the direction of sound propagation. Precise motions require well-focused beams. The technique of time-reversal acoustics (TRA) overcomes beam distortions introduced by propagation along irregular paths to focus sound without knowledge of the medium properties. TRA requires a small receiver to be placed at a point of desired focus. The invention disclosed refines TRA by introducing data matching schemes to extend the points of focus beyond the location points of the receivers. With as few as two receivers, a large region can be manipulated with well-focused acoustic beams and with no receiver at a desired point of focus. Applications are described in drug delivery in medicine; environmental fluid contaminant control; and in oil exploration, for retrieving oil stuck in underground pockets.
