    • A transmission assembly adapted to be mounted on a front of a vehicle axle casing as a substitute for a hydrostatic transmission comprises a transmission casing (1) and a drive shaft (2) at a high level, a speed-change shaft (4) at a low level, and an intermediate shaft (3) at a level intermediate between the drive and change shafts. These shafts extend within the transmission casing axially of this casing. The intermediate shaft is located aside in a direction across the casing. A clutch (5) is disposed on the drive shaft at an axial mid portion of this shaft, and a hollow shaft (6) which is driven to rotate by the drive shaft through the clutch is disposed on the drive shaft at one axial side of the clutch. A first mechanical speed-change mechanism (7) is disposed between the hollow shaft and intermediate shaft, whereas a second mechanical speed-change mechanism is disposed between the intermediate shaft and change shaft. Configuration of the transmission casing may be simplified, while the number of change ratios obtainable is greatly increased.

    • In a vehicle transmission assembly comprising a transmission casing (15) which supports axles (16) of forcedly driven rear wheels (12) and includes therein a rear-PTO shaft (18) and mid-PTO shaft (19), first input shaft (28) of a lower level and second input shaft (27) of a higher level for transmitting power into the transmission casing are provided such that the first input shaft is located aside in a direction across the casing. The first input shaft is connected drivingly to the wheel axles through a change speed gearing (31) disposed at a relatively high level, differential gearing (32) and final speed-reduction meshing gears (72, 73). A PTO-clutch (40) is disposed on the rear of the transmission casing between a drive shaft (38), co-axial with and coupled to the second input shaft, and a hollow clutch shaft (39) mounted rotatably on the drive shaft. The clutch shaft is connected drivingly to the respective PTO-shafts through a PTO-shaft drive assembly which is disposed at a rear end portion within the transmission casing and includes a PTO-selecting clutch (47). A compactness of the transmission assembly and transmission casing is assured owing to the arrangement of change speed gearing (31) and PTO-clutch (41).

The lateral turning centers of both the steerable running wheels may coincide with each other, and further coincide with a lateral turning center of the vehicle body caused by differential rotation of the running-driving wheels.

Based on setting of a switching device for switching the traveling direction of the vehicle between forward and rearward, a reverser decides the rotational direction of the drive wheels.

    • A hydrostatic transmission comprising a housing formed with a fluid sump, a center section disposed within the fluid sump, a hydraulic pump mounted on the center section, and a hydraulic motor mounted on the center section. A fluid passage is formed in the center section for hydraulically connecting the hydraulic pump with the hydraulic motor. A bore is open at an outer surface of the center section in communication with the fluid passage. An output operation device is provided for controlling discharged fluid of the hydraulic pump. The output operation device is moved to an operational position from a neutral position. A piston having an outer surface is reciprocally inserted into the bore so as to be allowed to project outward from the center section. A valve is disposed within the bore for opening and closing the bore to and from the fluid passage. The valve is biased to be closed by a spring disposed between the valve and the piston. A member interlocks with the output operation device so as to contact with the outer surface of the piston. When the output operation device is adjacent to the neutral position and pressure fluid in the fluid passage forcedly opens the valve and flows into the bore, the member drains the fluid in the bore to a low-pressure area which is either the fluid sump or the fluid passage for returning fluid from the hydraulic motor to the hydraulic pump.
