    • In an image signal recording system for recording on a recording medium an original image signal corresponding to an original picture which is comprised of a plurality of pixels, the original picture is divided into a plurality of pixel blocks each consisting of a predetermined number of pixels, and image signals each corresponding to the associated pixel block divided are recorded on the recording medium in accordance with a first recording mode and a second recording mode which are mutually different in a recording format. Either of the first and second recording modes is selected on each of the plurality of pixel blocks and a recording mode information signal corresponding to the selected recording mode is generated. There are recorded on the recording medium, the first image information signal or the second image information signal formed and the recording mode information signal generated, on a multiple basis. Thus, it is possible to provide the image signal recording system capable of efficiently recording image signals while suppressing a deterioration of the image quality.

    • A photographic optical system and a viewfinder are disposed above a recorder casing for recording a signal obtained by photography. The photographic optical system and the viewfinder are disposed so as not to overlap each other in a direction parallel to an optical axis of the photographic optical system and so that an optical path of the photographic optical system and an optical path of the viewfinder overlap each other as viewed on an extended line of the optical axis of the photographic optical system. In addition, the photographic optical system is disposed above the recorder casing, and the recorder casing is arranged to eject downward a recording medium for recording of a signal obtained by photography.     • A video signal recording apparatus includes a memory for storing a one-picture portion of an input video signal. An overlapping device gradually switches a first video signal, read from the memory, to a second video signal during a first predetermined time period, and provides an output video signal. A recording device records the video signal output from the overlapping device. A first manual operation member sets the video signal recording apparatus to an overlap mode, in which the overlapping device is operated in response to a start of recording by the recording device. A second manual operation member sets the video signal recording apparatus to an interval recording mode, in which the recording device is periodically operated to record during every second predetermined time period. A determination device determines the first and second predetermined time periods such that the second predetermined time period is longer than the first predetermined time period when the video signal recording apparatus is in the overlap mode and in the interval recording mode.
