    • A method of determining breeding status in animals by (a) determining a breeding event (cyclicity, mounting, pregnancy, open) time, (b) providing an estrus or other breeding event detection apparatus, (c) affixing the estrus detection apparatus at a predetermined location on a female animal at a predetermined application time prior to the breeding event time, and (d) monitoring the estrus detection apparatus for activation thereof. An indicator apparatus is provided for use in indicating when an animal is in estrus. The apparatus is configured to be affixed to the rump of an animal to detect and indicate when the animal has been mounted and, thus, when the animal is in estrus. The apparatus is affixed to the animal by an adhesive layer. Layered on the top surface of the adhesive layer is an indicator layer that is in turn covered with a floodcoat layer. The floodcoat layer is adapted for removal upon the mounting of the first animal by a second animal. Removal of the floodcoat layer exposes the indicator layer indicating that the first animal has been mounted, thereby indicating that the first animal is in heat. The floodcoat layer is highly visible and may be seen from a distance.

    • An implanter comprising a housing, a hollow needle connected to the housing, a drive pin positioned within the housing and aligned with the hollow needle, and a trigger assembly operably connected to both the housing and the drive pin. The drive pin has a distal end, and further has a retracted position wherein the distal end of the drive pin is in the housing and an extended position wherein the distal end of the drive pin portion extends out of the housing. A pellet is positioned between the needle and the distal end of the drive pin when the drive pin is in the retracted position. The drive pin expels the pellet through the hollow needle when moving from the retracted position to the extended position. The trigger assembly includes a trigger that has a relaxed position and an actuated position. The drive pin moves from the retracted position to the extended position when the trigger moves from the relaxed position to the actuated position. The invention further relates to a method for implanting an object beneath a membrane, comprising the steps of: positioning an object to be implanted between a drive pin and a hollow needle; positioning a plug between the object and the drive pin; inserting the needle through the membrane; and moving the drive pin from a retracted position to an extended position to expel the object through the hollow needle and stop the needle with the plug.

    • A fluid dispenser used to administer fixed or adjustable doses of fluids in oral, intranasal, or injectable applications. The dispenser may be used to draw off fluid from a flexible or rigid bulk container or to draw fluid from a mounted flexible or rigid container such as a sealed-end bag or bottle, or a threaded bag or bottle. The fluid dispenser generally comprises: a connection member communicatively connected to a fluid source container; a body member having a dose cylinder communicatively connected to the connection member; a piston member operationally related to the dose cylinder and spring biased in an extended position; and a trigger member attached to the piston member and communicatively connected to the dose cylinder through the piston member. The dispenser may include an automatic venting feature to assist with the smooth, easy flow of fluid during an application and to prevent contaminants from being suctioned back into the container. The dispenser may also include a dispensing mechanism for dispensing measured doses, a protective cap, insulation and padding.
