    • The present invention has an object to provide a particulate water-absorbing composition, a production process therefor, and an absorbent article comprising this particulate water-absorbing composition, wherein the particulate water-absorbing composition causes little coloring of other materials and further is of high safety, and can provide excellent deodorizability and excellent absorption properties to absorbent articles such as diapers in the case where combined into the absorbent articles. As a means of achieving this object, a particulate water-absorbing composition according to the present invention is characterized by comprising a plant powder and a water-absorbent resin, wherein a surface portion and/or its vicinity of the water-absorbent resin is surface-treated with a crosslinking agent, and wherein the particulate water-absorbing composition exhibits an offensive-odor removal index of not less than 180 wherein the offensive-odor removal index is represented by the following equation: offensive-odor removal index=1.1×hydrogen sulfide removal ratio+2.0×methylmercaptan removal ratio+0.3×ammonia removal ratio.

    • The present invention provides: a water-absorbing composition such that portions containing the water-absorbing composition in a high concentration exhibit excessive-liquid permeation buffering effects in absorbent articles comprising the water-absorbing composition and hydrophilic fibers; and a use of this water-absorbing composition. The water-absorbing composition comprises a water-absorbent resin and an excessive-liquid permeation buffer, wherein the water-absorbent resin is a product by a process including the step of further crosslinking the surface vicinity of a crosslinked polymer, and this water-absorbing composition is characterized by having a liquid permeation buffering index of not less than 0.4 and exhibiting an absorption capacity of not less than 25 g/g in absorbent structures under load, and further having an average particle diameter in the range of 200˜600 &mgr;m, wherein the ratio of particles having particle diameters smaller than 106 &mgr;m in the water-absorbing composition is not more than 5 weight %. This water-absorbing composition is, for example, used for the absorbent articles comprising the water-absorbing composition and the hydrophilic fibers.

    • An embodiment of the present invention allows for production, with a high productivity, of a water-absorbent resin including an improved relationship between absorption capacity and water-soluble polymer which are conflicting properties of the water-absorbent resin, being easily controlled for polymerization reaction, being of no odor, being less colored, and being of high absorption properties. In one embodiment of the present invention, acrylic acid composition is neutralized with a basic composition including an iron content of 0.2 to 5 ppm by weight (relative to a basic compound exclusive of a solvent); and then polymerizing a resultant neutralized product, the acrylic acid composition including: (i) a methoxyphenol content of 10 to 200 ppm by weight relative to the weight of acrylic acid; and (ii) at least one compound content of which is 0 to 10 ppm by weight relative to the weight of acrylic acid, the compound being selected from the group consisting of protoanemonin and furfural.
