    • An electric motor within a film rewinding device is connected by a gear reduction unit to an axially shiftable clutch to a rewind drive shaft which shaft projects axially to achieve clutching and to effect drive connection with a film support reel within a camera. A rotatable rewind operating lever within the rewind device is normally maintained in drive shaft de-clutch and reel disengagement position but is rotatable to effect clutching and drive engagement with the reel after moving through a position in which a driven element engages the film take up release member within the camera to release the film for rewind. The rewind operating lever further rotates to a position closing mutually open switch contacts controlling energization of the shaft drive motor.

    • In a camera including an electric motor for advancing the film an increment frame and for cocking and releasing the shutter an interlock mechanism is provided for preventing further motor actuation in the absence of a full frame advance. The interlock mechanism includes a pair of elements for sequentially sensing successively spaced points in the film advancing cycle and for enabling a normally disabled motor energizing network upon the successive actuation of the sensing elements. The sensing elements may be switches actuated by a cam carried by the film take-up shaft and the network, in one form, includes a pair of relays energized by the closure of respective sensing switches, each relay including a hold switch and a controlled switch, the controlled switches being series connected in a motor energizing circuit. In the mechanical counterpart the sensing elements are pawls actuated by the cam, the successive actuation of the pawls releasing an actuating member for closing a switch in series in the motor energizing circuit. Other networks and mechanisms are described.

    • To provide an optical head to produce good servo and read signals by reducing the influence of interference by light reflected from a non-read layer of a multilayer optical disc.The head includes: a first optical system for converging light from a light source on a first or second storage layer; a second optical system for receiving and transmitting light reflected from the first layer and stray light reflected from the second layer when the light is converged on the first layer; a photodetector; and a calculator. The photosensitive areas of the photodetector output signals representing intensities of the light incident there through the second system. The reflected and stray light incident on the second system interfere with each other, and the first and second groups of areas are arranged so as to be equally affected by a variation in intensity caused by the interference. The calculator calculates the difference between sum of a first group of signals supplied from a first group of areas and that of a second group of signals supplied from a second group of areas, thereby generating a focus error signal.
