    • A hot strip mill including an improved coiler furnace adapted to minimize heat losses and exposure of the roller table to extreme working conditions. The coiler furnace includes a mandrel which is mounted within a housing. An access opening is provided in the housing for allow for entry and exit of the stripper material being worked upon. A pivotable diverter is mounted on a pivot pin adjacent this opening and is shiftable between a closed position which substantially seals the housing closing of the access opening and an open position which extends into the pass line of the roller table of the hot strip mill to divert the strip being worked upon into the coiler furnace.

    • The method of processing soft metal slabs to strip thickness on a processing line including providing a hot reversing mill having coiler furnaces on either side thereof along the processing line; heating the slab to a hot working temperature; passing the heated slab through the hot reversing mill at least one time to reduce the thickness thereof to form an intermediate product of a coilable thickness; coiling the intermediate product in one of the coiler furnaces; passing the intermediate product back and forth through said hot reversing mill and between the coiler furnaces to reduce the intermediate product to a product having a strip thickness; processing the product of strip thickness through a quench; and surface cleaning the quenched product. No subsequent hot rolling, hot milling, cold reduction or anneal takes place prior to forming the product of strip thickness.

    • An apparatus for dispensing a liquid detergent solution using a timing fluid is disclosed. A preferred cleaning system (10) includes a fluid-operated solvent metering apparatus (38). The metering apparatus (38) preferably includes a normally-closed valve (16) and a timing device (40). The timing device (40) preferably includes a cylinder (52) and a piston (54), wherein the piston (54) forms a pair of subchambers (56, 58) which are interconnected by a flow control device (68). The flow control device (68) serves to restrict the flow of a timing fluid from one subchamber (56) to the other subchamber (58) so as to hold the valve (16) in its open position for a period of timing following its initial manual opening. A return spring (48) in the normally closed valve (16) urges the valve (16) toward its closed position, and the spring (48) also acts against the piston (54) to cause the timing fluid to flow from the first subchamber (56 ) to the second subchamber (58). A water source 12 and a detergent source 14 are in fluid communication for the period of time that the valve (16) is held open.

    • Disclosed is a method and apparatus (10) for dispensing powdered pesticide (13). A housing (11) is separated into an upper chamber (12) and lower chamber (51) by a porous media layer (19). The powdered pesticide (13) is contained within the upper chamber (13) and is fluidized when compressed air enters the dispenser from air inlet line (18). The fluidized pesticide is dispensed through outlet line (34) and nozzle (36) when a control valve (50) is activated. Only particles having a size smaller than a predetermined size are dispensed; the remaining, relative large pesticide particles remain in the upper chamber until physically removed.

    • A hydraulic pump for injecting a predetermined amount of a fluid product into a line carrying fluid that is subject to cyclic pressure. A chamber has a rigid outer wall adapted to be fluidly coupled to the line. A flexible bladder positioned within the chamber forms a cavity between the bladder and the outer wall of the chamber. The outer wall of the chamber has a first opening and a second opening, both the first opening and the second opening being in fluid communication with the cavity, the first opening adapted to be fluidly coupled to the fluid product, the second opening adapted to be fluidly coupled to the line. The flexible bladder is responsive to fluid pressure in the chamber by moving toward the outer wall of the chamber under a relatively high pressure from the fluid from the line and rebounding to a predetermined position away from the outer wall of the chamber when under a relatively low pressure from the fluid from the line. A first one-way check valve is in fluid communication between the fluid product and the first opening allowing the fluid product to pass only into the cavity from outside of the chamber. A second one-way check valve in fluid communication between the second opening and the line allowing the fluid product to pass only from the cavity to the line.
