    • A first wireless communication device is in communication with a second wireless communication device over an uplink communication link from the first wireless communication device to the second wireless communication device. Adaptive uplink antenna switching is performed at the first wireless communication device by switching between at least two antennas at the first wireless communication device in accordance with at least one antenna switching parameter to support the uplink communication link, determining whether each antenna switch is successful or unsuccessful and accumulating a history of successful and unsuccessful antenna switches. The at least one antenna switching parameter is modified based on the accumulated history of successful and unsuccessful antenna switches.

    • A gating scheme in a wireless communication network is tuned according to the performance of the application used. This can mean that in some situations gating is not used at all while in other occasions gating is used where the cycle length, burst length, number of preambles and offset are adjusted. The performance is monitored and the gating is increased or decreased depending on the results of the monitoring and demands of the application. Furthermore, the gating scheme adapts to the current performance and is chosen to optimize performance in terms of system capacity. The monitoring also takes into account which of the gating cycles that needs to be changed. The algorithm is self tuning/configuring meaning that it will control the gating scheme to find and keep an optimal level for the used application.

    • A user equipment, UE, in a radio communication network is given a threshold time value that the UE uses to decide whether it should trigger a fast dormancy request to a network node or not. The determination of the threshold time value can be adapted so that it minimizes UE battery consumption when the load in the network node is low and at other times minimizes the load on the network node. That is, if the UE estimates that a predicted time interval until reception of a data burst is less than threshold time value it will not trigger a fast dormancy request, and if the estimated time interval is larger than the threshold time value it will trigger a fast dormancy request. Since the network typically controls state switching, there is a large benefit for the UE to comply with the scheme, otherwise the network may not obey the UEs wish to be down switched by the fast dormancy request.

    • The present invention is directed towards compressing and decompressing data transmitted between an end terminal (12) and a network server (20) controlling compression in communication sessions involving the end terminal. States related to the end terminal that are created and used for compressing and decompressing data transmitted between the end terminal and the network server when the end terminal is first registered to the first network server are saved as the end terminal deregisters from the first network server. When the end terminal again registers to the network server these saved states are directly used. In this way it is possible to start compressing data using the saved states immediately after a following registering for providing a more effective dynamic compression.
