    • An ink jet recording head is provided having an ejection orifice for ejecting ink, an ink passage corresponding to that ejection orifice, and a thermal energy generator for heating ink in the passage to create a bubble. A flow resistance element is provided in the ink passage upstream of the thermal energy generator with respect to the direction of ink flow, and this element has a reduced ink passage area which serves to divide the bubble, improving ink jet operation. Further, the ink jet head can be driven by dividing plural thermal energy generations into groups and driving those groups so that a given group is driven before the bubble formed by a previously-driven group reaches its maximum size.

    • An ink jet recording apparatus includes an ink jet recording head which has an ink ejection outlet, an ink passage, a heater for heating ink to form a bubble in the ink so as to allow a part of the ink to be ejected from the ink ejection outlet in the form of an ink droplet, and a driving circuit for applying a driving signal group to the heater. The driving signal circuit serves to apply a driving signal group including one or more pulses per a single pixel to the heater corresponding to the value representing an input image signal. In response to this input image signal, an ink droplet group having independent ink droplets is ejected from the ejection outlet toward a recording sheet. Since a quantity of ink ejected per a single pixel is variably controlled by changing the number of ink droplet ejection, each recording operation can be achieved while maintaining excellent gray scale properties.

    • An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a plurality of ink discharge portions having discharge ports for discharging ink, ink channels communicating to the discharge ports, and electricity-heat converters for applying the heat energy to the ink within the ink channels, which electricity-heat converters are divided into plural groups supplied with separate signals for generating heat energy, and a conveying mechanism for conveying a recording medium to be recorded with the ink discharged from the discharge ports. The shapes of the ink discharge ports or other geometrical properties of the apparatus are changed for different groups of electricity heat converters to compensate for variations in the velocity of the ink discharged from the different groups.
