摘要： Multi-valued image data corresponding to a pixel area is divided into the first scanning multi-valued data, first and second scanning common multi-valued data, and second scanning multi-valued data. A quantization processing is executed on each of the multi-valued data to generate first scanning quantized data, first and second scanning common quantized data, and second scanning quantized data. After that, these pieces of quantized data are combined for each scanning to generate first scanning combined quantized data and second scanning combined quantized data. According to this, the amount of pixels where dots are both recorded by performing a scanning by plural times (the amount of overlapping dots) is controlled, and while suppressing the image density variations, the granularity is held to a low level.

On the other hand, at the masking unit B a random mask pattern is used and masking is performed with respect to 5 pl dot data. Herewith it has become possible, at all gradations, to suppress the 2 image defects, density unevenness and graininess, caused by conveyance distance errors.

摘要： A contamination of a printing medium caused by ink mist or the like is suppressed, which may scatter or float in an apparatus when margin-less printing is carried out in an ink jet printer. When margin-less printing for an edge of a printing medium P is performed, a predetermined edge area {circle around (1)} is printed using a smaller number of ejection openings during one scanning operation than that used for other areas {circle around (2)} and {circle around (3)}, while taking transportation errors relating to this end into consideration. This reduces the amount of ink mist resulting from ink ejected out of the edge of the printing medium during one scanning operation.

摘要： Image deterioration due to decrease in transfer amount, which arises when a remaining amount of wetting liquid for wet wiping is decreased, is reduced in an ink-jet printing apparatus. When the remaining amount of the wetting liquid decreases to reach a predetermined amount or less, a wetting liquid tank is moved down, and thereby an intrusion amount of a wiper into a transfer portion is made larger than a standard value. This increases an area of the wiper where the wiper comes into contact with the transfer portion, which allows the transfer amount to be maintained at a substantially same level as the reference value. This enables the transfer amount to be prevented from decreasing when the remaining amount decreases, and the transfer amount almost the same as that in an initial stage to be ensured even in a later stage of an apparatus life time.

摘要： By using an ink jet head, which has for each color two parallel columns of nozzles arranged side by side in the main scan direction and shifted from each other by one-half the pitch at which the nozzles are arranged in each column, odd-numbered rasters and even-numbered rasters making up an image are printed by the two nozzle columns. The registration between the odd- and even-numbered rasters is secured during the printing to produce an image with high print quality. For that purpose, the ink ejection timing between the two raster groups is shifted by a predetermined interval to form a plurality of adjustment patterns; the adjustment patterns printed are checked and, according to the check result, an adjustment value for the ink ejection timing between the two ink nozzle columns is entered; and the entered adjustment value is stored to be reflected on the actual printing operation. To facilitate the adjustment pattern check, the plurality of adjustment patterns have a dot distribution with a blue noise characteristic at a resolution at which the printing apparatus can print.

摘要： An apparatus and method are provided to enable high speed printing of an image with high resolution while suppressing degradation of image quality due to white stripes and density variations. In an ink jet printing apparatus using a multi-pass printing system, the same scan print area is divided at a predetermined pitch and the printing duties of the divided areas determined by the thinning out mask pattern are set to different values.
