    • Methods and systems for utilizing a multicast/broadcast connection identifier (CID) scheduling message in an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) or orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) frame in an effort to bypass at least a portion of the Media Access Control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) parsing of the frame are provided. By bypassing at least a portion of the MAC PDU parsing of the OFDM/OFDMA frame (which may be in accordance with one or more standards of the IEEE 802.16 family of standards), a particular user terminal need not spend a lot of overhead in the CID filtering process, determining which MAC PDUs are intended to be processed by the MAC of that particular user terminal. Furthermore, for certain embodiments, a user terminal may power down related circuitry during the terminal's bypassing time period(s) of the OFDM/OFDMA frame in an effort to save power.

    • The present invention provides a calling method by a mobile unit. The mobile unit pre-stores a default dialing number, and has a database storing a plurality of primary dialing numbers. Each of the primary dialing numbers corresponds to one geographic location. When a user dials a calling number, the present invention tests if the calling number is identical to the default dialing number. If the calling number is identical to the default dialing number, the present invention retrieving one primary dialing number from the database based upon a current location of the mobile unit. Then, the present invention makes a telephone connection based on the one primary dialing number.

    • The invention relates to a mobile station apparatus in a communication system. The communication system comprises a plurality of base stations for providing mobile communication service within a covered communication area. The mobile station apparatus comprises a memory for recording a predetermined access control class and determining which base station the mobile station apparatus is allowed to camp on for conducting mobile communication service, a battery for providing electrical power, a control program, and a power detector for detecting the current power of the battery, so that when the power detector detects that the power is lower than a predetermined low power watermark, the power detector issues a trigger signal. When the control program receives the trigger signal, the control program overwrites the predetermined access control class, so as to allow the mobile station apparatus to conduct mobile communication service through other base stations in the communication area.

    • A method and an apparatus for determining whether an object is moved are provided. The object is disposed in a communication system having many base stations. The apparatus includes a receiver, a controller, and a warning device. During a predetermined period, the apparatus respectively receives and measures signals from each of the base stations to derive a first average value. Meanwhile, a tolerable probability value is inputted. According to the tolerable probability value and the first average value, the apparatus gets a tolerable range. Next, the apparatus continues to receive and measure signals to derive a second average value. Finally, the apparatus determines whether the object is moved in accordance with the second average value and the tolerable range. If moved, the apparatus sends out a warning signal.

    • A method of locating a mobile station that is turned off. The method includes turning off the mobile station while keeping a battery of the mobile station intact in the mobile station. The mobile station enters a soft power-off mode after the mobile station has been turned off if the battery of the mobile station has sufficient energy. The mobile station receives paging request messages from at least one base station and the mobile station measures RSSI levels for received paging request messages. The mobile station then selects a current base station for which the mobile station measures a strongest RSSI level. The mobile station handshakes with the current base station to enable the mobile station to camp on the current base station. Next, the mobile station reports its location to the current base station and the current base station informs authorities of the location of the mobile station.
