摘要： A video game machine runs a game on a monitor display screen by enabling a user to control the motion of at least one character assigned to one of a plurality of positions that require the character to play a role peculiar to the position. The game machine has the following component units: an instruction operating unit for enabling the character to be assigned to a selected position from among the plurality of positions; a parameter storage unit for storing parameter values peculiar to the character, for a plurality of parameter items that are related to the nature of the game; a weight storage unit for storing weight values given to the parameter items for each of the plurality of positions, the weight values indicating the degree of significance of each parameter item in view of the role required by each of the plurality of positions; a suitability value calculating unit operative in response to the assignment of the character to the selected position by the instruction operating unit, for calculating a suitability value indicative of a degree of suitability of the character to the selected position, in terms of a weight average determined through multiplying the parameter values by the weight values of the corresponding parameter items; and an informing unit for informing the user of the calculated suitability value.

摘要： A liquid crystal back light illuminating device includes a driving circuit which receives a first value voltage at light-on starting. The device drives a voltage stepping up circuit and lights on a cold cathode tube with a stepped-up high voltage. Thereafter, it receives a second value voltage, drives the voltage stepping up circuit and continues the lighting-on of the cold cathode tube with a lower stepped-up voltage than the former stepped-up high voltage. A slowly varying voltage which is obtained by charging a capacitor with a small current is applied to the driving circuit via an amplifier and a switch circuit. When the varying output voltage comes close to the second value voltage beyond a predetermined value, the switch circuit switches to the second value voltage. Thereby, flickering of the cold cathode tube at the time of switching the light-on condition is prevented.

摘要： An optical disc-like recording medium has on one surface of its transparent substrate a ROM region where a plurality of pits are formed in correspondence with a predetermined information signal, and a RAM region where a plurality of guide grooves for tracking are formed and where an information signal is capable of being recorded. The optical disc-like recording medium transparent substrate is formed with a recording film made of an organic material and arranged to have a light-absorbing effect. Its refractive index is varied in response to illumination of laser light with a predetermined wavelength. Further formed on the recording film is a reflection film made of a metal which reflects light incident thereon. The physical depth of the pits is arranged to be equal to the physical depth of the guide grooves. The optical depths of the pit and guide groove have predetermined values which result from adjusting the thicknesses of the respective portions of the recording film present on the pit and guide groove. The width of the pits is preferable to be greater than the width of the guide grooves by a predetermined value. Optical disks interchangeable with compact disks are thus easily produced.
