    • A thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage device is used to dissipate heat from a thermal fluid ejector module in a fluid ejection device. The thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage device is molded from a polymer, or a polymer material including at least one thermally-conductive filler material. The thermal fluid ejector module is brought into contact with the thermally-conducting polymer carriage to dissipate heat. The polymer can be a highly thermally-conductive polymer. A method of manufacturing the thermally-conductive polymer carriage includes molding the carriage at least partially from a polymer that includes thermally-conductive filler materials, and contacting the thermally-conducting polymer carriage with the fluid ejector module. A method for use of the thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage device includes establishing a heat flow path from the fluid ejector module to ambient air through the thermally-conductive fluid ejector carriage device.

    • A printer determines the characteristics of the ink of the replaceble ink cartridge by set of ink cartridges. Each ink cartridge is formed of a housing and includes marks on the exterior surface of the housing. The marks on the cartridge housing are arranged so that the marks on the several ink cartridges collectively form a pattern of marks. The printer electronically scans the pattern of marks, and automatically produces an indication in accordance with the pattern of marks to identify the brand and/or type of ink contained in the set of cartridges, the ink capacity of the cartridges, as well as to verify that an appropriate combination of cartridges has been installed. Printer performance characteristics, such as expected print yield, can be determined based on the indication produced by scanning the pattern of marks.

    • A printer and a method for producing precise registered images are provided. The method in the printer is carried out by an included sheet transport and control assembly for moving a sheet of paper along a sheet path through a printing zone. The sheet transport and control assembly includes drive device; a moveable sheet carrying web member having a first edge and a second edge having an array of precision holes, including adjacent holes spaced a precise distance apart, formed through at least the first edge and the second edge. The sheet transport and control assembly also includes a programmable controller connected to the drive device, and a dual sensor assembly mounted along the sheet path and connected to the programmable controller for responsively generating and inputting precision hole position signals to the programmable controller. The dual sensor assembly includes a first sensor for generating a first increasing and decreasing signal, and a second sensor for generating a second increasing and decreasing signal that increases and decreases oppositely relative to the first signal. The programmable controller controls the moving device to move and stop the web member responsively to a desired value of a ratio of the first signal to the second signal, thereby ensuring precise moving and stopping of a sheet of paper on the web member through the printing zone.

    • A media transport system for transporting a media sheet in a marking device includes an entrance drive assembly, an exit drive assembly and a vacuum generator that applies a vacuum force to the media sheet to form a wide, flat printing zone. The entrance drive assembly receives and transports the media sheet in a process direction by contacting top and bottom surfaces of the media sheet, thereby exerting an entrance drive force on the media sheet. The exit drive assembly receives and transports the media sheet by contacting the top and bottom surfaces of the media sheet, thereby exerting an exit drive force on the media sheet. The vacuum force is applied to the media sheet in an area of the media sheet between the entrance drive assembly and the exit drive assembly. The vacuum force on the media sheet acts in a vacuum force direction substantially normal to the process direction. The vacuum force is set such that the entrance drive force and the exit drive force in the process direction each exceed the vacuum force acting in the vacuum force direction.
