摘要： A stiffening system for the perimeter edges of a foam core mattress comprising a coil spring (or other spring-based) structure disposed along one or more perimeter edges (e.g., one or both side edges, the foot, the head, or a combinations thereof including the foot and both side edges) of a mattress having a foam sleeping area. The perimeter spring structure is rectangular or square in cross-section and provides sufficient stiffness for comfortable seating on the edges of the mattress and is joined to the foam core by planar fabric elements that span the joint between them and are attached to both. The sleep area provides the softness and other salutary effects of a foam sleeping surface while the stiffer spring perimeter element provides the rigidity need for comfortable seating and wear resistance.

A mattress foundation defined by a semi-rigid cavity includes a generally flat top surface and at least one sidewall depending from the top surface. For pliability and structural weight reduction, the foundation may be ribbed, with air spaces formed therein. Ground support members may be used to retain the foundation in a substantially horizontal orientation above ground. To reinforce the foundation's structural integrity, support braces connecting opposing sidewall portions may be used. The braces may be detachable or integrally formed with the foundation. The assembly may include a headboard. To ease transport, casters may be included with the foundation. The assembly may be constructed of extruded or assembled plastic pieces; molded plastic; recyclable plastic; plastic reinforced with metal core, metal fiber, glass fiber, carbon fiber, resin or a combination of these.

摘要： A box spring corner guard is disclosed which protects and reinforces the corner of a box spring. The box spring corner guard consists of a curved body having the shape of a 90 degree section of an imaginary cylinder with a concave inner surface and a convex outer surface. A locator flange extends from the concave inner surface adjacent the bottom end of the curved body. Strengthening ribs run along the length of the curved body to add rigidity. In one embodiment, the curved body also has a limit flange, similar to the locator flange, extending from the concave inner surface adjacent the top end of the curved body. The curved body is attached to the base of the box spring, but the curved body is not attached to the border wire.
