    • An apparatus for perforating a length of pierceable material which includes a first roller, the length of pierceable material being in engagement with and at least partially circumscribing said first roller; and a second roller disposed in close proximity to the first roller. The second roller, which is provided with a plurality of piercing members, is movable from a first position wherein the piercing members are spaced apart from the first roller to a second position wherein selected ones of the piercing members pierce the length of pierceable material.     • A system for distributed authentication includes a client machine, in a first domain in a federation, that receives from a user a first set of authentication credentials. The system also includes an intermediate machine in a second domain in the federation, a server, also in the second domain, a password management program executing on the server and a non-federated resource. The intermediate machine authenticates the user responsive to receiving the first set of authentication credentials and identifies a second set of authentication credentials. The server in the second domain authenticates the user, responsive to the second set of authentication credentials. The password management program, executing on the server, retrieves a third set of authentication credentials associated with the user. The non-federated resource authenticates the user, responsive to receiving, from the password management program, the third set of authentication credentials.

    • Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to workload management of backend systems and provide a novel and non-obvious method, system and computer program product for limiting a request rate from a client based on a health state of a server system. In one embodiment of the invention, a computer-implemented method for limiting a request rate from a client based on a health state of a server system that includes monitoring a server system, determining a measure of health of the server system, sending the determined measure of health to a client submitting a request to the server system and receiving a subsequent request from the client that is delayed by a time period, wherein the time period is based at least in part upon the determined measure of health. The computer-implemented method can further include receiving server system CPU utilization, determining an approximate predicted real server response time of a transaction and sending the determined approximate predicted real server response time of a transaction to a client submitting a request to the server system.

    • An AC maintain power signature detection circuit in a power sourcing equipment (PSE) for a Power over Ethernet system injects an AC test signal onto a power port of the PSE. The AC test signal is driven onto a first power terminal of the power port through a sense resistor. The voltages across the sense resistor are measured and scaled by first and second resistor dividers having different resistor ratios. The voltage and the scaled voltage at the first power terminal side of the sense resistor have a peak voltage being proportional to the load impedance of the load coupled to the power port. The comparator compares the scaled voltages measured across the sense resistor and generates the output signal indicative of the load impedance at the power port.
