A fixing apparatus (200) is equipped with a heat-producing sleeve (210), an induction heating apparatus (230), a magnetic field absorption member (233) that absorbs a magnetic field generated by the induction heating apparatus (230), and a fixing roller (240) and pressure roller (250) that grip and rotate the heat-producing sleeve (210). The magnetic field absorption member (233) is located in an area opposite an exciting coil (231) with the heat-producing sleeve (210) between, and absorbs a magnetic field generated by the induction heating apparatus (230). The heat-producing sleeve (210) is composed of a nonmagnetic metallic material of thickness in the range from 10 μm to 500 μm and specific resistance of 80×10−6 Ωcm or less.

    • An image heating device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a heat generator that has an outer surface and that generates heat by induction heating and a heater positioned close to the outer surface of the heat generator, the heater being configured to heat the heat generator by induction heating. A positioner is located close to an end of the heater, the positioner being configured to position the heater with respect to the heat generator. A vibration absorber is attached to the positioner and is configured, in one embodiment, to viscoelasticly absorb vibration of the heater produced by a vibration caused by an electromagnetic repulsive force acting between the heat generator and the heater when the heater heats the heat generator by induction heating.

    • A heat-fixing apparatus is provided that enables a rise in temperature of a heating member to be closely tracked, and an excessive rise in temperature of the heating member to be obviated, a simple configuration and irrespective of differences in the operating mode, such as immediately after a rise in temperature or during continuous operation. Different threshold values are set in accordance with different modes, such as a warm-up mode and a fixing operation mode. Threshold decisions on a switching frequency controlled by a frequency control section are made using different threshold values, according to the mode. A switching frequency of switching elements are varied so that power necessary in each mode is supplied to an exciting coil. An excessive rise in temperature is prevented in each mode by halting a switching element drive in accordance with the threshold decision.

    • An image heating device includes a heat generating member that heats a body to be heated that is allowed to travel while carrying an image, an excitation unit that is provided close to the heat generating member and generates magnetic flux so as to cause the heat generating member to generate heat by electromagnetic induction, and a heat generation suppressing unit that suppresses an amount of heat generated in the heat generating member by regulating magnetic flux generated by the excitation unit. The heat generation suppressing unit suppresses heat generation of the heat generating member in a region corresponding to a region including at least a center portion of the body to be heated in a width direction. Thus, an amount of heat generated in the width direction can be regulated using a simple configuration at a reduced cost. Further, when the heat generation suppressing unit is operated, diffusion of magnetic flux into a wide area can be prevented.

    • An excitation coil is arranged so as to be opposed to a rotatable heat generating roller of a conductive material, and on a rear side of the excitation coil, a core of a magnetic material is provided. The core is composed of a central core that is formed continuously in a rotation axis direction of the heat generating roller, and a plurality of U-shaped cores arranged at a distance from each other in that direction. A high-frequency current is applied to the excitation coil so that the heat generating roller 1 generates heat by electromagnetic induction. An additional coil is wound around the U-shaped core. Both ends of the additional coil are connected to a switching unit. When the switching unit is brought to a connected state, under an induction current generated in the additional coil, a magnetic flux in a direction in which a magnetic flux of the excitation coil is cancelled out is generated, so that heat generation of the heat generating roller can be suppressed. The switching unit is switched over according to a width of a paper sheet to be passed and a temperature distribution in the rotation axis direction. Thus, a uniform temperature distribution of the heat generating roller in the rotation axis direction can be maintained.
