    • Systems, methods, and apparatuses including computer program products for universal language input are provided. In one implementation, a method is provided. The method includes using a first application or operating system component to detect user input to an application interface of a second application. The method also includes, as input is detected in the application interface, automatically using the first application to provide one or more translations of the input including, sending the input to a translation model, receiving translated input from the translation model, and sending the translated input to the application interface of the second application.

    • One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that automatically determines if a location is a standalone location, which can be unambiguously identified by a name for the location alone. During operation, the system determines a name score for the location which indicates a popularity of the name for the location. The system also obtains a signature for the location, wherein the signature is a set of combinations of location specifiers, wherein each combination of location specifiers refers to the location. The system then determines a signature score for the location which indicates a popularity of the signature for the location. Finally, the system determines whether the location is a standalone location based on the name score and the signature score.

    • Short POI titles are generated by removing unnecessary administrative area prefixes from existing POI titles and replacing necessary administrative area prefixes with shorter aliases. Administrative area prefixes are identified and analyzed to determine whether they are necessary. The analysis includes determining (1) whether the remainders with the prefixes excluded include a common suffix as a prefix, and (2) whether the remainders are unique in an applicable metropolis area. If a remainder does not include as a prefix a common suffix and is unique in the applicable metropolis area, the corresponding prefix is determined unnecessary and removed from the existing POI title to generate a short POI title. Otherwise, the corresponding prefix is determined necessary and replaced with a shorter alias to generate a short POI title.
