    • A socket and a method for making a socket for securing an integrated circuit package to a supporting structure. The integrated circuit package has a plurality of leads positioned in a geometric pattern and each lead has a predetermined impedance. The socket comprises a substrate or body having a first and second surface opposed to each other and formed of an insulative material. The socket further comprises a plurality signal path members extending from at least the first surface to the second surface. Each signal path includes a first and second end. One end of each signal path member includes a means positioned to secure a lead of an integrated circuit package and the other end is adapted to be coupled to a conductor on a printed circuit board. A metal pattern or ground plane mesh is defined on at least a surface of the substrate, and coated through holes are defined in the substrate at a predetermined distance such that the impedance of at least one signal path is controlled to match the anticipated impedance of the lead. Further, radio-frequency interference with at least one signal path is suppressed.

    • A card edge connector includes an elongated longitudinally extending outer frame defining a reception region adapted to receive a plurality of chiclet modules including contact members and lying in parallel laterally extending planes which, as an assembly, are positioned to connectively engage with mating contacts. Each chiclet module includes an insulative housing having first and second spaced generally parallel elongated passages therein and a card receiving recess for reception therein between the first and second passages of a planar card having opposed surfaces with conductive contact members thereon. First and second contacts are received, respectively, in the first and second passages. Each has a first contact surface positioned, respectively, for engagement with first and second of the mating contacts. The card receiving recesses of the chiclet modules as a group define a longitudinally extending card receiving slot. The contacts each include a second contact surface projecting into the card receiving slot for engagement, respectively, with second conductive contact members on the planar card. A tubular ground shield may be slidably received on the insulative housing in proximate engagement with its outer peripheral surface. In this instance, the ground shield includes a first integral ground contact for engagement with a ground contact of an external unit associated with the mating contacts engaged by the first contact surfaces of the first and second contacts and a second integral ground contact for engagement with a ground contact surface on the planar card inserted into the card receiving slot.

    • A coaxial connector that is mountable to a substrate is disclosed. The coaxial connector includes an electrically conductive inner contact for conducting a signal through the connector, an electrically conductive outer shell disposed generally coaxially around the inner contact, and an insulator disposed between the inner contact and the outer shell for insulating the inner contact electrically from the outer shell. The connector also includes an integral electronic component, such as a transformer, disposed within the outer shell. The electronic component has a first terminal in electrical contact with the inner contact, a second terminal in electrical contact with the outer shell, and a third terminal, isolated from the first and second terminals, adapted for electrical contact to the substrate.

    • An electrical connector is disclosed for being mounted on a board and for connecting a loop antenna to a circuit on the board. The antenna connector has a connector block and first and second terminals. The connector block is constructed from a non-conductive material and has opposing top and bottom faces, first and second opposing side faces, and a center portion extending between the top face and bottom face. The center portion defines first and second bays isolated from each other, where the first and second bays are exposed at the top and bottom faces. The first and second bays are further exposed, respectively, at the first side face and the second side face. The first and second terminals are mounted in the first and second bays of the connector block. Each terminal is constructed from a conductive material and has an open jaw positioned at the top face of the connector block, and a contacting portion opposite the open jaw and positioned at the bottom face of the connector block. The antenna connector is mounted to the board such that the bottom face of the connector block faces the board, and such that the contacting portions of the first and second terminals are in electrical contact with corresponding pads on such board. The first and second terminals respectively receive a first end and a second end of the loop antenna.

    • An electrical connector and method for mechanically supporting the main body of a connector module to a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in a manner that also allows attachment of a zero-footprint board stiffener thereby eliminating the need to take up valuable real estate on the PCB. The stiffener rail, by attaching to the cover, has the desired feature of not requiring typical board stiffener mounting holes located on the PCB, as is he case with a typical edge mounted connector. This feature conserves space on the PCB and eliminates trace routing problems caused by these typical stiffener mounting holes. In addition to the board stiffener not requiring mounting holes on the PCB, this improvement simultaneously aligns the connector modules to each other creating a one piece "mono-block" like effect while at the same time acting to stiffen the PCB thereby reducing any PCB bowing. Alternatively, an electrical connector and method for mechanically supporting the main body of a connector module to a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB) in a manner that also allows attachment of a minimum-footprint board stiffener thereby eliminating the need to take up valuable real estate on the PCB.
