    • A brake pad measuring tool is disclosed and functions to provide a quick visual indicator for determining brake pad wear condition in motor vehicles. The brake pad measuring tool includes a plurality of rigid bars which are attached in a reciprocal and rotatable manner via a coupling ring. Each of the rigid bars has a free end provided with a color-coded bar segment. The rigid bars also have descending incremental widths which correspond to a specific color cast by each color-coded bar segment, thus serving as a quick visual indicator for pad wear condition. The brake pad measuring tool allows for a brake pad's condition to be determined while the vehicle wheel is still attached to the hub.

    • A nozzle assembly setting gauge for use in an oil burner to gauge the optimal operating distance between a combustion head and a nozzle. The nozzle assembly setting gauge includes a holder for engaging the nozzle assembly and a head having a cross sectional thickness which defines the optimal operating distance. A technician installs the nozzle assembly setting gauge onto the nozzle assembly and fully inserts the nozzle assembly into oil burner until a front face of the nozzle assembly setting gauge contacts the combustion head. Next, the technician indicates the position of the nozzle assembly at this fully inserted position. The technician removes the nozzle assembly setting gauge and re-inserts the nozzle assembly to the indicated position.

    • A linear test gage for testing the accuracy of machine tools is operable for out of roundness measurements as well as long-range linear measurements. The test gage consists of a linear guide assembly, first and second reference elements, and a long-range linear measurement device. The linear guide assembly includes an elongated guide profile, a guide rail secured to the guide profile, and a slide which is slidably movable relative to the guide rail. The first reference element is attached to the first end of the guide profile and the second reference element is attached to the slide so that the reference elements are relatively movable over a length of about 30-40 inches. A first knuckle assembly secures the first reference element in a fixed position relative to the machine tool. A second knuckle assembly secures the second reference element to an active element of the machine tool. During testing, the active machine element is programmed to move the second reference element along a predetermined trajectory wherein the linear guide assembly permits co-linear movement of the reference elements as the active element moves the second reference. The long-range linear measuring device measures the distance between the reference elements as the second reference element is moved. The long range measurement capability allows use of the device in both circular and linear measurements. The test gage further includes a counter weight assembly and an anti-rotation device.

    • An opening clearance measuring tool that functions as a combination taper gauge and parallel gauge includes a wedge-shaped "taper block", a sliding linear scale predisposed to parallel movement along an upper edge of the taper block, and a digital read-out linear scale measuring and display unit that accurately measures a translational displacement of the sliding scale with respect to the taper block and displays the displacement in millimeters. The angle between the upper and lower edge surfaces of the taper block forms the wedge of the tool and defines the particular slope or "taper" for the gauge. The slope is predetermined to incorporate a linear conversion factor between metric and English units so that the display may be used to indicate clearance measurements expressed in mils. The scale measuring and display unit is fixedly secured to the taper block and, as the linear scale slider is moved past (through) the scale display unit, the translational displacement of the slider is measured and displayed. This information may also be provided via electrical connection/communication to an external "data logger" device for further manipulation and storage. The scale slider also includes a set of parallel tapered steps of precise predetermined increments at one end to enable using the tool as a parallel gauge capable of accommodating plural ranges of clearance measurements.

    • Disclosed is a method of obtaining data to determine a rotation matrix R, for rotating the axes (x,y,z) of an analogue probe coordinate system (PCS) onto the axes (X,Y,Z) of a machine coordinate system (MCS). The head (14) of the machine is driven to bring a measuring tip (16) of a stylus (12) supported by the probe for movement relative to the head (14) into engagement with a kinematic location (20). With the tip (16) fixed in the location (20) the head is then moved to six different locations. The coordinate positions of the head (14) in the machine coordinate system (MCS), and the stylus (12) in the probe coordinate system are used to set up six simultaneous equations and thus determine the rotation matrix R.
