    • A load-bearing roller for conveying items includes an outer cylinder and a transmission assembly. The transmission assembly includes a bushing rotatably mounted in an end of the outer cylinder, a transmission member, and a retracting member. The transmission member includes a transmission wheel and a toothed gear non-rotatably coupled to the transmission wheel. The transmission wheel is positioned outside the outer cylinder. The toothed gear is positioned in the bushing. The retracting member is mounted in the bushing. A free end of the retracting member engages with the gear teeth to urge rotation of the bushing and the outer cylinder. When the roller is jammed or prevented from rotating, the retracting member retracts over the teeth of the toothed gear so as to prevent overload of a prime mover. The disclosure also includes a conveying device using the load-bearing roller.

    • A ball transfer unit support may include a top ring, an upper portion adjacent to the top ring, a lower portion, and a shoulder located between the upper portion and the lower portion. The shoulder may be configured to support a ball transfer unit. The top ring may be in the shape of a truncated circle, and the top ring may snap into an aperture in a top skin of a ball panel. The top ring may include a retaining lip which snaps below the top skin. The truncated circle shape of the top ring may provide anti-rotation between the ball transfer unit support and the ball panel. The ball transfer unit support may transfer load on the ball transfer unit to a bottom skin of the ball panel.

    • A conveyor drive roller for moving a conveyor medium. The conveyor roller has a hollow drum which is rotatably connected to a first and a second stationary shaft. An internal gear assembly is disposed inside the hollow drum and couples a motor to the hollow drum such that operation of the motor causes rotation of the hollow drum about the first and second stationary shafts. The hollow drum is configured to hold a liquid lubricant in contact with the internal gear assembly. Liquid lubricant flow paths are provided to move the liquid lubricant from inside the hollow drum to outside the hollow drum via the first or second stationary shafts, and vice versa. The liquid lubricant flow paths are configured for connection to a means for cooling the liquid lubricant.

    • A unidirectional annular labyrinth seal having flexible annular fins positioned on a circular plate near an outer edge of the circular plate wherein the fins are biased towards a center of the circular plate. Annular ribs are positioned on an end of an idler roller. The fins project into recesses formed by the annular ribs, thereby forming the unidirectional annular labyrinth seal. The annular fins engage the annular ribs when the temperature of air within an interior of the roller is similar to the temperature of air exterior to the roller, thereby closing the labyrinth seal. The flexible annular fins bend away from the annular ribs when the temperature of air within the interior of the roller is higher than that of air exterior to the roller, thereby opening the labyrinth seal and allowing heated air within the interior of the roller to escape through the labyrinth seal.
