    • The disclosed shank slot dial has two equi-diameter cylindrical members each having a like plurality of axial notches equally spaced around the circumferential surface of the member. Mating helical thread means formed on the members concentrically of the notched surfaces allow for relative rotation of the members, which adjustably varies the axial spacing between the surfaces for proper support of the shanks to be fixtured in the dial. Keying means in the form of an axial grove on one member and a radially movable set screw on the other member nonrotatably hold the members at selected axial spacings and with the notches longitudinally aligned. The shank components supported in the dial thereby are abutted only at their end sections in corresponding aligned pairs of notches and bridge across at their intermediate sections the spacing between the notched surfaces.

    • This improved non-walking, non-skittering self-drilling and self-tapping screw fastener is manufactured by a simplified, versatile method comprising pointing and fluting steps involving axial movement of end mill cutters. The resulting threaded fastener features a pair of oppositely-disposed, substantiallylongitudinally-extending milled flutes at the entering end, each of the flutes having a uniformly-concavely-curved flute side including the cutting edge, a plane tangent to the concavelycurved surface at the cutting edge extremity being inclined at an angle to and traversing the axis of the screw at an intermediate point of the shank. In a preferred embodiment having enhanced chip-breaking characteristics, the curvature and disposition of the flutes are such that they redirect the normal chip flow and thereby fragment the chips by flexure.

    • This aligning device is designed to insure slotting the heads the long dimension from point to point diametrically of the head using opposed flats on the heads for such alignment. Two legs pivotally connected together at one end are disposed in straddling relationship to the space between the dial and a fixed slide plate in substantially tangential relationship to the dial and are spring pressed toward one another to provide sliding aligning contact of a longitudinally extending rib on one leg, first with a flat on one side of each head and later similar engagement of another rib on the inner side of the other leg with a flat on the opposite side of the head shortly before the blank arrives at the first of two spaced coplanar saw blades for the slotting of the head diametrically thereof in the turning of the dial. Means is provided for adjusting the spacing of the legs to suit different sizes of heads.

    • The present invention relates to a machine for upsetting bolts and similar articles comprising dies fixed in the frame of the machine, a carriage reciprocable with regard to said dies, holding means for holding punches attached to said carriage, said punches being engageable with said dies by means of said reciprocable carriage, and pins which can be shifted in said frame and positioned coaxially with said dies, for ejecting the upset articles from said dies. Because of the oscillation of the shaft and the action of the ejecting levers by means of cams it is impossible to drive such a machine with an elevated number of revolutions since the moving masses are considerable. Furthermore, in such a machine it has been unusual up to now to apply a separate ejecting lever for each processing station. Said ejecting levers receive their oscillation movement from an oscillation shaft, an ejecting cam being provided for each lever said cams being subjected to a cumbrous and time-consuming adjustment or must be replaced when the ejecting length must be changed.
