    • The present invention relates generally to an improved structure of inline skates, which provides a cushion, a wheel with a gearwheel on its side, and a pawl assembly. By pressing down the weight, the wheel with gearwheel on its side occludes the pawl assembly, which stops the wheel with gearwheel on its side from rolling one-wayly. Thereby, the improved structure of inline skates is more ergonomic and exercise injuries can be prevented. In addition, a brake is provided for providing shock absorption and more powerful acceleration. Besides, automatic support upright is also provided for avoiding tumbles.

    • A mechanical brake system for inline skates that utilizes all four wheels for braking. The brake is applied by the skater straightening the leg, or both legs if there are brakes on both skates, to a predetermined adjustable position. This causes the adjustable and spring loaded trigger rod, mounted on the pivoting ankle support behind the heel to push the brake lever that extends from behind the heel on both sides of the frame to the front where it is hingedly attached to move downwards. At the mid-point of the skate the brake rail positioned above the wheels and extending the whole length of the skate is connected to the brake lever. The downward movement of the brake lever and brake rail causes the brake rail to contact the wheels causing friction and thereby braking in direct proportion to the force by which the skater is straightening the leg(s). The brake rail is inflexible and shaped to fit the curvature of the wheels thereby facilitating even wheel wear both regarding shape and diameter. Two brackets mounted on the underside of the skate and passing through slots in the brake rail ensure centering of the brake rail. The spring loading of the trigger rod ensures smooth and controllable braking. The spring tension of the spring loaded trigger rod is adjustable so that skaters with different body weight can have optimum braking power without wheel lock-up.

    • A wheeled skate that includes a skate frame and a plurality of wheels disposed along that frame. A turnable wheel assembly is provided that includes two paired wheels, each supported by a movable axle. The turnable wheel assembly is preferably configured such that the paired wheels maintain a parallel relationship and a fixed distance from one another as the skate moves between varying degrees of turning. This configuration permits the paired wheels to be positioned close together. The axles may be supported by movable support members that move in parallel planes. Various embodiments are disclosed including the incorporation of two turnable paired-wheel assemblies in one skate.

    • An in-line skate wheel incorporating transverse-mounted and self-powered illuminating device is disclosed. The wheel includes two mutually coupled anchors, a rotor held between the two coupled anchors, multiple illuminating devices installed in transverse orientation on the rotor, a stator within the rotor but kept apart from the rotor, an axle extending through the two coupled anchors and the stator, and a protective covering placed around the rim of the first and second anchors. The transverse-mounted illuminating devices allow the skate wheel to be fitted on in-line skates and skate boards that can only use small wheels. Further, the present design can prevent scratching of the illuminating devices against the ground to avoid abrasion on the surface of the illuminating devices that would otherwise attenuate the light given out by the illuminating devices.
