摘要： This invention relates to a hair styling device having a body defining a chamber adapted to accommodate a length of hair, the length of hair being styled while it is located within the chamber. The chamber has a primary opening through which the length of hair may pass into the chamber. An elongate member is located within the chamber. A rotatable element is provided which is adapted to engage the length of hair adjacent to the primary opening and to apply a force to the length of hair to wind the length of hair around the elongate member. The rotation of the rotatable element is controlled by a control system which includes means to detect the force applied to the length of hair. In the event of hair entanglement the force applied to the length of hair increases and if the force detected by the control system exceeds a predetermined threshold the rotation of the rotatable element is stopped and can be reversed so as to relieve the tension and allow the length of hair to be removed from the device.

摘要： A hair styling apparatus including a first and a second arm moveable between a closed position in which a contacting surface of the first arm is adjacent a contacting surface of the second arm and an open position in which the contacting surfaces of each arm are spaced apart, whereby the contacting surfaces of each arm have complementary profiles so that, in use, a section of hair is clamped between the contacting surfaces when the arms are in the closed position, and where a heating zone on at least one of the contacting surfaces is provided to heat the section of hair between the contacting surfaces, a cooling zone on at least one of the contacting surfaces is provided for cooling the section of hair after the section of hair has been heated, and the cooling zone is curved whereby, in use, as the hair styling apparatus is moved along the section of hair in a generally linear fashion, the section of hair is curled.

The grip portion includes a power cable and a power switch at a first end for supplying and controlling electrical current to the hair styling device. The device also includes a heating portion configured to generate heat based on the electrical current. The heating portion extends from the grip portion at a second end, opposite the first end, and has a cross-sectional profile with side portions between substantially circular ends along a length of the heating portion. The heating portion is configured to apply the heat to hair wrapped around the heating portion to impart a wave in the hair according to the cross-sectional profile.

The opening includes a circumferential portion extending about a distal end of the barrel, and a slot extending axially from the circumferential portion toward a proximal end of the barrel. The slot portion is disposed at a longitudinal end of the curling iron for receiving a lock of hair that is elongated parallel to the slot portion and pushed in crosswise. A resilient finger mounted to the body projects and normally closes the slot portion and holds the lock of hair in the hair-receiving space. A gating coupling connects the barrel to the body and provides relative movement between the barrel and the body, between open and closed position, for inserting and releasing a lock of hair.

摘要： A hair styling iron includes a handle to which a barrel is mounted, a heating element in the barrel, a rotary drive including a motor that rotates the barrel, a control circuit including a timer, and a momentary drive switch which is user actuable and connected to the control circuit for control of the motor. Actuation of the drive switch must be maintained to operate the rotary drive. The control circuit monitors at least one change of state of the drive switch to determine a starting time, and actuates an alarm after an elapsed time measured from the starting time. The elapsed time is calculated by the control circuit in direct proportion to an angle of rotation of the barrel relative to the handle that occurs between a first actuation of the drive switch and release of the drive switch immediately following the first actuation of the drive switch.
