摘要： In a superconducting AC (alternating current) current limiter, quenched trigger coil assembly is quickly recovered to the superconductive state by minimizing a loop current flowing through the trigger coil assembly. The superconducting AC current limiter comprises: a cylindrical core; a superconducting current limiting coil wound on the core, and inserted into an AC power transmission line, for limiting an overcurrent flowing through the AC power transmission line when a failure happens to occur therein; a superconducting trigger coil assembly coaxially wound inside the superconducting current limiting coil on the core, and magnetically coupled to the current limiting coil, for triggering current limiting operation by the current limiting coil when most of the overcurrent flows through the trigger coil assembly, the superconducting trigger coil assembly being arranged by first, second, third and fourth trigger coils in such a manner that the first trigger coil is series-connected to the fourth trigger coil thereby to constitute a first series trigger coil circuit, the second trigger coil is series-connected to the third trigger coil thereby to constitute a second series trigger coil circuit, the first and second series trigger coil circuits are connected in parallel with each other, one end of which is connected to one end of the superconducting current limiting coil and the other end of which is connected via a quenching switch to the other end of the current.

Two magnet rods are coaxially arranged in the same direction with a superconducting film therebetween. When the surrounding temperature is descended below Tc of the superconducting film, a dipole moment is formed across the superconducting film and moves the reed away from the lead by the magnetic force thereof.

摘要： A cryogenic detector comprises an array formed from a plurality of spherical grains made of type I superconducting material arranged in a preselected pattern and each having a preselected size (generally less than about 100 microns in diameter). Also disclosed is a method of making such an array by depositing a film of selected thickness of type I superconducting material on a substrate, etching the film to provide an array formed by a plurality of discrete pixels, melting the pixels under conditions whereby the pixels are transformed into substantially spherical shape, and cooling to freeze the molten pixels into substantially spherical grains.

摘要： The invention is directed to a device and method to engineer the superconducting transition width by suppressing the phonon populations responsible for the Cooper-pair decoherence below the superconducting transition temperature via phononic bandgap engineering. The device uses phononic crystals to engineer a phononic frequency gap that suppresses the decohering thermal phonon population just below the Cooper-frequency, and thus the normal conduction electron population. For example, such engineering can relax the cooling requirements for a variety of circuits yielding higher operational quality factors for superconducting electronics and interconnects.
