    • A measuring system for linear and angular movements with a first length or angle sensor (3) which operates in accordance with a first measuring method and which converts an input value (s, alpha) in the form of a linear or angular movement into an electrically processible first output value (UPOT) is further developed to increase the functional reliability and to avoid "coomon model" errors in such a manner that a second length or angle sensor (1) which is mechanically coupled with the first length or angle sensor (3) is provided which operates to a measuring method that is different from the first measuring method, and which converts the linear and angular movement (s, alpha) into an electrically processible second output value (UPULS), with the first and second output value (UPOT, UPULS) being available for subsequent processing and evaluation.

    • A rotational position-detecting device detects the rotational position of various kinds of rotating shafts in an accurate and simplified manner. A parameter element is mounted on a rotating shaft of a motor or the like for providing a parameter which varies in a manner corresponding to the rotational position of the rotating shaft. The parameter element may be formed by a variable resistor a resistance of which varies in a manner corresponding to the rotational position of the rotating shaft, or alternatively by a variable capacitor a capacitance of which varies in a manner corresponding to same. An oscillator generates a signal having a frequency dependent on the resistance or capacitance of the parameter element. The oscillator may be formed by a VCO to which is applied voltage dependent on the resistance of the parameter element, to generate a signal having a frequency dependent on the applied voltage. Alternatively, the oscillator may be formed by an LC resonance circuit which generates a signal having a frequency dependent on the capacitance of the parameter element. The oscillating frequency of the oscillator bears one-to-one correspondence to the rotational position of the rotating shaft, and hence the latter is detected based on the former.

    • Apparatus for use in determining the position of an object such as a sash door of a laboratory fume hood which has an elongated base member for attachment to the fume hood adjacent the sash doors. It includes an electrical switching means having an elongated electrical resistance means that provides a signal indicative of the position of a sash door, and an actuator means associated with each sash door adapted to move when the sash door is moved. The actuator means includes an actuator assembly positioned to operate the switching means at a switch location that varies as the sash door is moved. The actuator means includes a linkage means that permits accurate operation even though there is undesirable movement of the door relative to the base member.
