    • An improved method of making syntatic modules which includes the following steps. A preform mold and a casting mold are formed of predetermined configuration. A woven roving of predetermined size is formed to provide a skin. Additionally a layer of spacer material is formed which includes a plurality of voids. The roving is attached to the spacer material to form a laminate. The laminate is formed to the insidewalls of the preform mold and then the preform mold is filled with a plurality of hollow balls. A thin layer of resin is poured into the preform mold to connect the balls. The composite is removed from the preform mold and placed into the casting mold after spacer material is attached to the exposed end portions of the composite. A syntatic foam resin is added to the casting mold interior so as to fill all spaces between the balls and all voids in the spacer material. The syntatic foam resin is then cured and the mold parts are removed thereby producing a module.

    • The invention relates to a buoyant flexible hose and method for making same wherein buoyancy is imparted to the hose by an annular sleeve which surrounds said hose and is constituted by an inner layer consisting of a series of axially successive preformed annular bodies of cellular high polymer which are surrounded by an outer layer of a wear resistant polymeric material with the interposition of an intermediate layer of a reinforcing fabric between said inner and outer layers. The outer layer is formed in situ and together with the intermediate layer constitutes a unitary body structure, which is continuous and uninterrupted in the entire extent along said axially successive annular bodies.

    • A flotation assembly for a riser pipe generally includes a pair of elongated semiannular flotation collars fabricated in part of a buoyant material and each including a pair of spaced clamps useful in attaching the collars about the riser pipe. These clamps are preferably imbedded within an inner surface of the collar. The present invention is directed to securing devices for retaining the clamps, and in turn the collars, in place tightly against the riser pipe. These securing devices also hold the choke and kill lines, conventionally associated with a riser pipe, in place adjacent the riser pipe.
