    • A rotary positioning stage which enables a high speed and high precision positioning. The rotary positioning stage includes an arc-like portion 7a for forming an arc with respect to a rotation shaft 10, a rotary stage 2 on which a workpiece 5 can be mounted, a pulley 12 contacting the arc-like portion 7a, first positioning means 3 for positioning the workpiece 5 by rotating the rotary stage 2 via the pulley 12, second positioning means 4 for positioning the workpiece 5 by slightly moving the first positioning means 3 in a straight line-like manner in a tangent line direction at a contact point between the arc-like portion 7a and the pulley 12, wherein the straight line motion of the first positioning means 3 is converted into a rotational motion of the rotary stage 2 to position the workpiece 5.

    • This invention includes a sprocket assembly for facilitating the derailing of the chain of a bicycle transmission and other prime movers. The first embodiment of the invention relates to a sprocket gear having at least two sprockets axially and concentrically positioned relative to one another. Each sprocket includes a non-circular configuration having at least one long radius and at least one short radius. The sprockets being axially aligned adjacent to one another such that the short radius of one sprocket is axially substantially aligned with and substantially equal in length with said long radius of an adjacent sprocket. The second embodiment of the present invention provides a sprocket assembly having two sprockets with the tooth being displaced by less than one tooth relative to each other. Thus, it is possible to vary the relationship between the teeth of the small sprocket and the chain to engage these teeth without having to vary the phase relationship between the larger and smaller sprockets. Therefore, the driving load is fully transferred to the receiving sprocket long before the chain is released from the previous sprocket. For practical purposes, this method of transferring the chain can therefore be considered as synchronous shifting.

    • The power transmission comprises a pulley, a damper and a driver. The pulley has a hub, a web and a belt-wound portion. The hub is formed into the shape of a cylinder. The web extends outward from an outer surface of the hub. The belt-wound portion is formed into the shape of a cylinder and extends from an external circumferential edge of the web along the axial direction of the hub. The damper is disposed in the interior of an annular recess which is formed out of an outer surface of the hub, an end surface of the web and an inner surface of the belt-wound portion, and is fixed to the pulley. The driver is connected to the pulley at vertex portions thereof. The recess of the pulley is open towards the driver.

    • A system for transmitting power from a driving, or input, shaft to a driven, or output, shaft by way of an elastomeric belt nipped between opposing surfaces associated with the driving and driven shafts utilizes opposing surfaces which define a plurality of indentations disposed thereacross. Each indentation of the surfaces includes a cavity for accepting a portion of the elastomeric belt as the belt passes between the opposing surfaces and as edge which borders the cavity at the corresponding surface. As power is transmitted from the driving shaft to the driven shaft, significant shear and normal forces are applied between the edges of the indentations and the portions of the belt accepted by the indentations.
