    • An anchoring system for a floating structure is described. The anchoring system is of the type which employs a combination anchor line consisting of a lower length of chain cable connected to an anchor and an upper length of wire rope and which involves disconnection of the wire rope from the chain cable during paying out and retrieval of the anchor line. A winch and windlass mounted on the floating structure serve to separately haul in and pay out the wire rope and chain cable, respectively. The windlass has a length of lead chain which can be used to lead the chain cable over a chain wheel to the chain locker. An overwide chain link terminates the chain cable, and together with a pair of detachable links permits the load of the chain cable to be transferred directly from the winch to the windlass, during paying out and retrieval, without the requirement for an intermediate chain hanger. The fairlead sheave and the chain wheel associated with the windlass are designed to convey the overwide chain link as if it were any other link in the chain line, and consequently no swivels or other special measures are required to ensure that the overwide chain link is properly conveyed over these devices.

    • A load transmitting chain (1) comprises a series of links each formed by a number of link plates (2) arranged side by side and meshing with the link plates of the adjacent link to which they are pivotally connected by link pins (4). The chain is intended for use in transmitting force from a hydraulic cylinder having a piston rod, for example in a fork-lift truck. To avoid damage to the piston rod by contact of the links (2), which are of steel, with it, the chain is provided with a row of additional protective link plates (5) which are sandwiched between the link plates (2) and have projecting portions (11). The protective link plates (5) are made of plastics material and the projecting portions (11) act as buffers so that they come into contact with the piston rod without causing damage and prevent direct contact between the steel link plates (2) and the piston rod.

    • An improved passenger car tire chain employing heat treated medium carbon steel is disclosed. The improved tire chain is approximately twice as durable as that presently furnished to meet NACM-5179(TC) for Type PL chains when AISI 1026 or 1029 carbon steel is employed at least for links of a cross chain meeting the road surface. The cross chain links are closed by welding prepared abutting link ends which have been previously beveled. After being welded closed, the cross chain links are case hardened, quenched, tempered and air cooled. The improved tire chain is then assembled in a conventional manner to include a pair of side members, fastening means to secure a end of each side member to the other end, and a plurality of cross chains extending between the sidewall members at preselected intervals.

    • A conductor guiding support formed of two chains retained in parallel spaced apart relationship by spacers which support the conductors between the chains. The chains are formed of successive links pivotably coupled to each other with each link being formed of two matching plates. One end portion of each plate is provided with a central hole and arcuate slots spaced about a circle that is concentric to the central hole. The opposite end portion of the plate is offset and is provided with bosses that are in a pattern that corresponds to the pattern of the hole and slots on the other end. Two plates are placed face-to-face to form a link and the portions with the central hole and arcuate slots are in surface contact with each other while the offset portion that present the bosses are spaced from each other. The portion of the succeeding link with the contacting surfaces is placed in this space with the bosses of the offset portion engaging the openings in the surface contacting portions. The boss in the central hole establishes the pivot point of the links relative to each other and the offset bosses in the arcuate slots limit this pivotal movement. The abutting bosses of the two plates are then welded together to secure the assembly.

    • An improved security buckle for a wrist watch metal bracelet is disclosed which utilizes a first and second frame work, one mounted within the other, which are provided with a limited amount of relative sliding movement. A spur of the first frame work is in engagement with or is disengaged from a first traverse element of the second frame work when the two frame works are respectively in a first and second relative position. An inflexible removable traverse element is attached to the first frame work and to a first portion of the metal bracelet. A locking band attached to a second portion of the metal bracelet passes under the first traverse and is engageable with the spur when the frame works are in the second relative position and further passes through a space defined by the inflexible removable traverse element and a second traverse element on the first frame work when the frame works are in the first relative position. The second frame work includes a traverse portion engaging with the inflexible removable traverse element for locking the second frame work in the first relative position when the locking band is within the defined space. A protection plate may be provided to protect a users wrist from marks left by the buckle.

    • A process for preparing a synthetic substantially crystalline sodium aluminosilicate of the zeolite A type is disclosed. The process comprises rapidly and simultaneously introducing a sodium silicate and a sodium aluminate solution under thorough agitation at a constant by volume ratio which provides for a reaction mixture the content of which is equivalent to a molar ratio of x' Na.sub.2 O/ 1 Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 / y SiO.sub.2 /z' H.sub.2 O wherein x' is from about 6.5 to about 9.0, y is from about 1.7 to about 2.2 and z' is from about 180 to about 250, maintaining the reaction mixture at a temperature of from about 70.degree. to about 100.degree. C. under stirring for a sufficient period of time, usually 1-3 hours, in order to allow the initially amorphous reaction product to crystallize and recovering the substantially crystalline product from the resulting suspension. The essential feature of the process is a continuously maintained constant molar ratio Na.sub.2 O/ Al.sub.2 O/ SiO.sub.2 /H.sub.2 O throughout the reaction mixture during the entire course of the process. The resulting product exhibits a small particle size, an excellent wettability and a high calcium binding power, and is especially suited as a detergent additive.
