    • The method for building an underground composite retaining wall comprises determining a position where a temporary retaining wall is installed in consideration of the outside line of the underground of a building, forming holes by means of a construction equipment such as an auger drill to drive in an H-section steel pile in each of the holes, and installing an earth plate between the H-section steel piles, thereby completing the installation of the temporary retaining wall; excavating a site in the interior of the temporary retaining wall; if the site excavation is completed, installing a fixing shear connecting means on the H-section steel pile; arranging reinforcing bars on an underground retaining wall; and installing a frame in the interior of the underground retaining wall, casting concrete in the frame and curing the concrete, thereby completing the formation of the underground retaining wall.

    • A wooden floor truss/foundation wall combination is not made entirely from all-weather wood. In one embodiment, opposed end studs of untreated lumber rest upon treated lumber resting upon a footing just inside and near the bottom of the concrete foundation stem wall. In another embodiment, the end stud bottoms rest in a pocket depression in the footing lined with an environmental barrier to protect the stud bottom from dampness in the concrete footing. In another embodiment, an elongated floor joist member extends to the foundation wall to rest on a pad on the wall or in a pocket depression in the wall that is lined with an environmental barrier, or to hang on a joist hanger connected to the wall, and frame webbing extends down from the floor joist member to an environmentally-lined corner between the top of the footing and the bottom of the inside foundation wall.

    • A moment resisting strap connection in a shear-resisting assembly for use in light frame building construction, particularly in shear walls, attached to a foundation. The improvement consists of providing an elongated thin metal strap attached to a wood structural member such that the strap and wood structural member conjointly act compositely and transmit substantial shear and moment forces from the elongated structural member to the foundation. Further enhanced transfer of shear and moment forces from the wood structural member to the foundation is effected by providing sufficient fasteners such as screws between the strap, a holdown, and the wood structural member to stitch the elements together so as to stiffen them and thereby prevent bending of the end of the holdown.

    • An easily-constructed foundation for an antenna support tower is provided that requires no fabricated support surface at the installation site. The foundation is a radial array of prefabricated buildings connected near their inner corners to each other. In a first embodiment, one leg of a multi-legged tower rests on each building, the buildings transferring forces from the tower to the support surface below the buildings. In a second embodiment, a tapered monopole tower is located in the center of the array of buildings. The monopole tower may rest on a prepared surface or may be supported above the support surface. Support structures, each having a central ring and radially extending arms, are attached at the building connection points, one support structure above the other. The monopole tower is positioned within the central ring, transferring lateral loads through the ring and arms to the buildings, negating the need for a moment base.
