    • A biodegradable playing surface (100) including a synthetic turf base (104) positioned atop a foundation (102) is provided. The synthetic turf base includes an at least partially biodegradable backing (112) having a plurality of openings (116), and synthetic fibers (110) secured to the biodegradable backing. The synthetic turf base also includes a surface layer of growth medium (118) applied on top of the biodegradable backing to reach a predetermined depth. Natural grass (120) is planted in the surface layer of growth medium. The biodegradable backing degrades over time so as to increase the size and number of the openings through the backing. This allows the roots of the natural grass to increasingly grow amongst the synthetic fibers and through the backing, so as to firmly integrate the synthetic turf base to the foundation.

    • A wood-form splice stake includes an elongated stake member having a lower end adapted to be driven into the ground. A pair of flat flanges extend laterally outwardly in opposite directions from the upper end of the stake member for securement to respective adjacent ends of aligned concrete form boards for maintaining them in alignment and securing them against relative vertical movement. The stakes are preferably formed so as to be stackable in nested relation. A stake carrier includes an elongated base having an upstanding post insertable through aligned pull holes in the stacked stake members. The other ends of the stake members are confined between upstanding legs on the base plate to prevent pivotal movement about the post. A lock device is operatively associated with the post for releasably locking the stakes against removal from the post.Metal-to-wood form adapters are provided for aligning and supporting wood form boards relative to conventional metal forms.

The sport surface comprises a solid, porous, resilient base mat and a thermoplastic, synthetic fiber, grass-like mat placed over the base mat. The grass-like mat is prepared by tufting synthetic fibers into a water-permeable fabric to obtain a fabric having loops of the synthetic fibers on the fabric's bottom side and a grass-like pile on its top side, then placing on the loops on the bottom side of the fabric a water-permeable, heat-resistant membrane, composed of high melting-point fibers or a mixture of high melting-point fibers, followed by heating the membrane to fuse the synthetic fibers to the membrane.

    • Architectural or decorative pavement having thin decorative pavers or "tiles" made of or selected from known materials, from metal and impregnated wood to natural stone to clay or cementitious tiles, are bonded to the upper surface of a sand and cement (and latex, if desired) setting bed before the bed takes its initial set. "Thin" pavers are less than 1/4 inches thick. Stronger materials in these pavers lend themselves to minimum thickness in small to medium sizes. Thin pavers of weaker materials require maximum thickness in large to medium sizes.The pavers are placed in rows and designs as may be pleasing with adjacent side edges spaced apart and forming gaps all around the perimeter of each paver.While the bed and bond are both green, vertical cuts are made through and below the gaps and through the bond coat and appreciably into the setting bed all around the whole perimeter of each paver. The setting beds are supported on appropriate bases or other supporting means.After the paving is cured the cuts in the setting bed create a stress line below which destructive forces exerted on the finished pavement are concentrated to vertical downward extensions of the cuts to the full depth of the bed, and form, in effect, whole, separate, monolithic fractured-out pavement blocks which may suffer bodily displacement while preserving the integrated pavers whole and intact.The cuts into the setting bed, or the cuts and subjacent cracks, comprise by their numbers and proximity, expansion and control joints.

    • A concrete form useful in forming a key contraction joint between concrete slabs. The concrete form comprises a plurality of spaced-apart, aligned stakes and an elongate rigid sheet material member having upper and lower longitudinally extending, generally coplanar portions and a longitudinally key deformation portion interposed between and connected to said planar portions. At least some of the stakes have a pocket means formed thereon. Each pocket means includes an edge engaging surface. The sheet material member has a plurality of longitudinally spaced strap means formed within one of the planar portions and said member includes a plurality of parts, each part including an edge portion which is disposed within a corresponding one of said pocket means to contact the edge engaging surface thereof to prevent movement of said member in an upwardly direction by utilizing the shear properties of the material from which said member is formed. Each strap means is disposed in partial encompassing engagement about a portion of a corresponding one of said stakes. Each pocket means includes a tab means having a portion thereof biasedly disposed in a direction toward the body portion of its corresponding stakes. Each of the parts of said member has a planform projection, taken in a direction normal to the body portion of the stakes, that is greater than the thickness of the material from which the member is formed.
