摘要： A plastic bag is formed, filled, sealed and separated from continuous webs of plastic material. The webs pass downwardly between complementary U-shaped heat sealing jaws that reciprocate and cooperate to provide seams which form a pocket that is closed after it has been filled from above and indexed downwardly. The top seam of one pocket is formed simultaneously with the bottom seam of an adjacent pocket and a weakened line of juncture is provided therebetween. Grippers carried on the heat sealing jaws engage opposite sides of the plastic webs above the location of the top seam of the filled pocket and cooperate with a separator that tensions the webs along the weakened line to rupture the filled pocket from the webs while the webs are still in a thermally weakened condition.

摘要： A parallelogram feed system for packaging film is provided. The system includes a pair of idler guide rollers bodily movable between a feed position adjacent the packaging film and a rest position away from the packaging film. Drive rollers are provided away from the packaging film. An endless belt extends around the rollers and engages the packaging film between the two guide rollers when in the feed position. The rollers are linked together by four connecting links in the shape of a parallelogram that are pivotally attached to the shafts to which the rollers are rotatably mounted. A pneumatic cylinder moves the guide rollers between the feed and rest positions. The cylinder is attached to the link connecting the two guide rollers by means of a pin slidably received in an elongated slot in the connecting link so as to allow parallelogram shifting movement. In addition, optional air passages may be provided for directing a cushion of air beneath the packaging film adjacent the feed system belts. The air cushion lifts the film from the mandrel of the packaging machine into contact with the belts while reducing dynamic friction between the film and the mandrel. In an alternative embodiment, dual piggyback belts are provided in lieu of a single feed belt, the outer feed belt engaging the film and the inner belt serving as the driver. The surface of the feed belt is matched for maximum affinity to the film and the drive belt exhibits maximum driving capability and extended life.

摘要： Bags supplied in a chain are advanced step by step through a filling station wherein lip flanges on the bag tops are clampingly gripped and pulled apart to separate a reclosable profile fastener, the bag filled and then released from the clamps, and advanced from the filling station. In one arrangement clamp assemblies separate for pulling the flanges apart to open the bag to be filled and a filling nozzle may be inserted down between the separated clamp assemblies. In another embodiment the clamp assemblies include a collapsible and expandable multi-panel funnel assembly through which bag filling contents are delivered into the open bag. Each filled bag is advanced from the filling station and the fastener reclosed after leaving the filling station. The lip flanges may be treated along a transverse separation line to facilitate separation of the filled bag from the next succeeding bag.
