    • A riding lawn mower has wheels which are spring suspended from the chassis and a floating-type cutter deck hangs from the chassis. When a wheel moves upwardly relative to the chassis, as occurs when the wheel goes across a bump or when the chassis leans in a turn, a nearby portion of the cutter deck is lifted upwardly in response. In one embodiment, the drive wheels are independently spring suspended rear wheels and the cutter deck is mounted between the front and rear wheels. On each side of the machine a chain runs from a lifting bracket attached to each rear wheel motor mount and runs down to the rear end of the deck. So, when a wheel moves upwardly the deck is moved upwardly. In another embodiment, the front wheels are the spring suspended drive wheels and the cutter deck is cantilevered from the front end of the machine. The rear end of the cutter deck is lifted upwardly upon upward wheel motion.

    • A modular vehicle includes a frame having three main sections; a front section, a rear section and a center section. The front and rear sections may be displaced vertically with respect to center section prior to being assembled. Each section is separately assembled and standardized so that various devices may be incorporated to each section and each section may be otherwise modified to allow a specific vehicle to be easily and quickly manufactured.Another aspect of the invention is a drive assembly that includes at least two electric motors, each having different operating characteristics. Each motor is connected to a common drive shaft through a controllable clutch. A drive system controller selectively activates each motor in response to power demand, as determined by a relative position of an accelerator pedal, by engaging the clutch of a selected motor and simultaneously providing power to the selected motor.Another aspect of the invention is a quick-release wheel assembly that includes a rim having an inner wall which defines an adjacent central opening. The opening is sized and shaped to snugly receive a cylindrical hub so that the inner wall lies flush to an outer wall surface of the hub. Radially directed pins are positionable through both inner wall and outer wall surface of the hub so that the wheel may be selectively engaged to the hub.

    • A tunable air spring/shock absorber comprises a cylinder, a piston rod extending out of the cylinder through a lower end thereof, and rod guide provided on the lower end of the cylinder for guiding the piston rod, a seal mounted on the rod guide and piston containing valving components to deliver desired force-velocity characteristics for rebound and compression mounted on the piston rod. The piston is submerged in oil during the complete stroke of the air spring/shock absorber. On top of the piston, a spacer is provided which separates a sealing disk or piston that hermetically separates a counter spring chamber and a main spring chamber. The tunable air spring/shock absorber has an upper closure on the cylinder with a valve that allows pressurization of the main spring chamber.
