摘要： A method for analysis and visualization of a network is disclosed. The analysis method is based on the use of the steepest ascent graph (SAG). Specifically, the method: (i) uses the SAG to define subregions, in a way that allows iterative refinement; (ii) presents a new and highly efficient way of calculating the SAG; (iii) uses the SAG, and the definitions in (i), as the foundation of a novel method for displaying the structure of the network in a two-dimensional visualization.

摘要： A method and apparatus for remotely obtaining an optical power level in a PON network is provided. An Element Management System (EMS) transmits a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) request message to retrieve an optical power level from an Optical Network Unit (ONU). After receiving the SNMP request message, an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) sends an optical power level request frame to the ONU. The ONU responds to the request with an optical power level response frame having an expected bit pattern that is used by an optics block in the OLT to calculate the upstream optical power level. The OLT sends the calculated level to the EMS in a SNMP response message.

The monitoring devices may include a number of multimedia instruments such as a telephone with an answering machine, a computer with a built-in digital camera, a video recording device, a cellular phone with an integrated digital camera, etc. An emergency service provider may remotely activate the monitoring devices in the user's vicinity upon receiving an emergency help request from the user, and receive the information sent by the monitoring devices to enable the service personnel to plan appropriate response to the emergency at hand. Such an arrangement allows for better monitoring of the user's vicinity in an emergency situation without the need for prolonged user participation in narrating or describing the emergency situation. Further, the emergency service provider may obtain a better picture of the emergency and its impact by controlling appropriate monitoring devices available in the user's vicinity. The remote activation and control of a monitoring device may be accomplished via the Internet.

摘要： The present disclosure pertains to systems and method for configuration of communication flows in a software defined network (“SDN”). In one embodiment, a system is operable to configure a communication flow between a first host and a second host. A mode selection subsystem is configured to cause a plurality of network devices in a network connecting the first communication host and the second communication host to transition between an open mode and an SDN operating mode. In the open mode, the network devices may discover a communication path between the first host and the second host. An analysis subsystem may receive information from the plurality of network devices information about the discovered path, and a topology discovery subsystem may be configured to create a communication flow corresponding to the discovered path. The communication flow may allow communication between the first host and the second host in the SDN operating mode.
