    • Provided is a drum surface scanner with which punched holes and/or cuts can be formed in a plate which has been correctly defined by position, and the plate can be clamped to a recording drum. When a plate P comes in front of movable pins 113, i.e., on a hole punch unit 4 side, the upper roller of a conveyor roller 125 moves down, and conveyor rollers 124 and 125, and conveyor belts 111 all start rotating in the positive direction. Once the plate P moves out of the range covered by a sensor PH159, the movable pins 113 follow the tail end of the plate P at a given distance therefrom. When the front end of the plate P reaches the hole punch unit 4, the movable pins 113 which have been chasing the plate P push the tail end thereof to make the front end thereof abut to the hole punch unit 4. At the same time, based on the movement amount of the movable pins 113 from their original positions to current positions pushing the tail end of the plate P, the plate P is checked for its length Y. Plate conveyance with respect to positioning pins 51 on the recording drum 5 is carried out in a similar manner.

    • An image recorder includes a punch unit for punching a hole in a plate. The punch unit has six punchers disposed movably. Punches of the punchers can punch holes of different configurations. A punch of a required configuration moves to a required location toward a plate prepared on an upper tray of a feed/discharge unit. After a hole is punched in the plate by this punch, the plate is fed to a drum. This allows changes in the location of a punched hole in the plate without the need to simply increase the number of punchers when the range of plate sizes mountable on the drum is expanded. If competition in punch standards occurs, the image recorder allows a required puncher to be situated in a desired location.

    • A guide method and apparatus is provided for use in an imaging system in which media is moved through the system in a first direction. The guide apparatus includes a roller unit for contacting a surface of the media and maintains contact with the surface of the media as the media moves in the first direction, and a retraction unit for separating the roller unit from the media. In an embodiment, the guide apparatus includes a carriage that moves radially toward and away from an internal drum so that the leading portion of media may be held against the internal drum. In other embodiments the guide apparatus includes a carriage that moves along the inner surface of an internal drum together with the leading portion of media. The method guides media in an imaging system in which media having a curled leading edge is moved through the system in a first direction along an inner surface of a cylindrical drum. The method includes the steps of: radially outwardly moving a roller toward the inner surface of the cylindrical drum; contacting a surface of the media that is proximate to the curled leading edge, and maintaining contact with the surface of the media as the media moves in the first direction along the inner surface of the cylindrical drum while inhibiting movement of the media in a direction transverse to the first direction; and radially inwardly moving the roller away from the inner surface of the cylindrical drum.
