摘要： A network configuration file is generated at a host computer and downloaded to a digital camera. This file contains instruction information for communicating with a selected destination via a communications interface. The digital camera includes a “send” button or LCD icon which allows the user to easily transmit one or more images via a wired or wireless communications interface to a desired destination, which among other possibilities may be an Internet Service Provider or a digital photofinishing center. When the user selects this option, the communications port settings, user account specifics, and destination connection commands are read from the network configuration file on the removable memory card. Examples of these settings include serial port baud rate, parity, and stop bits, as well as account name and password.

摘要： A system and method for automatic creation of digital image albums. A Page Creator Module utilizes a genetic engine and a layout evaluation module. The genetic engine evolves a group of images to a plurality of album pages, based on certain layout criteria. The evaluation module calculates layout criteria and compares them with user preferences. When an acceptable image/page layout has been generated, the image/page assignments are transferred to an Image Placement Module. The Image Placement Module utilizes a second genetic engine, which evolves various criteria to generate page layouts genetic structures. These structures define the location, scale, and rotation of images placed on a given page. A layout evaluation module calculates and compares these layouts with certain other preferences and page requirements. When a suitable layout has been generated, a final album output is generated, which may be displayed, printed, or otherwise transferred for subsequent utilization.

A procedural manual in line with the simulation is created. The procedural manual and paper mount, photographs and decorations such as buttons and ribbons for actually creating the scrapbook are bundled into a package and the package is delivered to the creator. The creator accepts the package and, while viewing the manual and using the bundled paper mount and decorations, actually creates the scrapbook in the manner that was simulated.

Images (e.g., photos) are shared within a community of users, by allowing user to access any unrestricted community image, recommend an image to another user, assemble compilations of any images the user can access, etc. Various metrics regarding user activity are tracked, such as how often an image was viewed, downloaded, recommended, included in a compilation, printed, edited, etc. The metric values may be normalized, and then weighted and combined to produce, for each image, a ranking or rating personalized to an individual user. Ratings of images for a user may be used to order them for electronic presentation, assemble a set of images for an electronic compilation (e.g., an online album) or physical compilation (e.g., a photo book, a yearbook) or for some other purpose.

The metadata can be stored on a mobile device and an alert provided when the mobile device is near the geographic position of the subject or if a trajectory of the mobile device does not match the generated path. Relationships with other digital images having associated metadata may also be included. Thus, users have the ability to use their image capture devices to intelligently share digital images of subjects and knowledge of the subjects, delivering greater value from these devices.

The method and system further include providing a list of the images associated with a user's account to the web application, wherein the list of images includes an image reference for each image and an indication of whether each image is stored on the device or on the photo-service site, such that the web application may perform at least one function on the user's images regardless of where the images are stored.
