摘要： Techniques for determining which resource access requests are handled locally at a remote computer, and which resource access requests are routed or “redirected” through a virtual private network. One or more routing or “redirection” rules are downloaded from a redirection rule server to a remote computer. When the node of the virtual private network running on the remote computer receives a resource access request, it compares the identified resource with the rules. Based upon how the identified resource matches one or more rules, the node will determine whether the resource access request is redirected through the virtual private network or handled locally (e.g., retrieved locally from another network). A single set of redirection rules can be distributed to and employed by a variety of different virtual private network communication techniques.

摘要： According to one aspect of the teachings herein, a method and apparatus predict a departure time of transmit data transmitted from a first network entity to a second network entity, determine a timing difference between a detected departure time and the predicted departure time of the transmit data that is was based on an estimated path delay of data transmission circuitry, and indicate the timing difference in further transmit data, e.g., to improve synchronization at the second network entity. In one or more embodiments, the timing difference is further used to compensate one or more timing operations at the first network entity, such as adapting one or more prediction parameters used by a departure-time prediction process.

摘要： A relay system has a router and multiple relay servers with specific network addresses on a first network. The router and servers are mutually connected by a second network. The router receives a relay-service request from a source on the first network, addressed to an address distinct from the relay servers' specific addresses. It forwards the request to the relay servers. Each relay server instructs the source to issue a relay-service request to its specific address. The server that receives the request provides the service. Two routers may be connected to different respective sub-networks of the first network and be connected to each other by the second network. The routers announce a common destination network address on the first network. The first network is configured such that only one of the routers receives a data packet addressed to the common address, which it forwards onto the second network.

The first redirector may receive and respond to requests for a network service by redirecting a client's request to the second redirector. The second redirector may receive and respond to the redirected request by sending a network address of a gateway. In this manner, communications used to provide the network service may be redirected to the enhanced communication link. 摘要： In a multimedia call center (MMCC) operating through an operating system, a client-specific self-help wizard is provided for active clients and updated periodically with information related to client transaction history with the MMCC. A connected client is presented by the wizard with a selective media function through which the client may a select a media type for interaction and help, and the MMCC will then re-contact the client through the selected media. The client, for example, may select IP or COST telephony, and the MMCC will place a call to the client to a number or IP address listed for the client, and interactivity will then be through an interactive voice response unit. Help information specific to a client is updated in the client's wizard periodically according to ongoing transaction history with the MMCC. The wizard may also monitor client activity with the wizard and make reports available to various persons.
