    • A compact and economical clamp assembly for securing a cover plate to an open front electrical panelboard box having mounting flanges. The assembly includes an insulating sleeve surrounding a screw, both of which extend through a hole in the cover plate. The screw has a slotted head, a reduced diameter tip and an intermediate threaded portion. The sleeve has a recess to receive the screw head and a pair of diametrically opposed slots extending from a mid portion of the sleeve to one end. The screw is positioned so that the slots of the sleeve overlap a substantial portion of the threaded portion of the screw. A nut, threadingly engaged with the screw, has two wings which protrude through the respective slots of the sleeve. A clamp member, having a camming end and a clamping end, is pivotally connected to the wings. A torsional spring biases the camming end of the clamp member into contact with the cover. As the screw is turned in a predetermined direction, the nut advances toward the cover, drawing the clamping end to the cover to secure the cover plate against the mounting flange of the box.

    • A meter box and a uniquely designed cover molded out of a substantially rigid plastic material is disclosed. The meter box comprises an open upper top with an upwardly extending rim member. On the inside surface of the meter box are means for supporting a cover forming a ledge member. The cover is arranged and configured to rest on the ledge confronting the rim of the box so as to substantially close the open top of the box. Disposed on the exterior of the meter box are a plurality of anchor tabs. A horizontal member is disposed between two anchor tabs adjacent the top of the meter box which enables the box to be secured in concrete and the like.The cover may be a substantially round member or may comprise first and second sections and means for rotatably joining the first and second sections together. The first section having outwardly extending protrusions which engage slots on the meter box so as to render the first section substantially immovable therein. The second section having an opening which enables the user to lift the second section off the top of the meter box and move it about the rotation means whereby the meter box is selectively opened and closed. The meter box and cover of the present invention have particular utility because of the ease of construction, and beneficial cost versus strength ratios.

    • A socket for a watt-hour meter is provided with a manual by-pass device to prevent interruption of power to a load when the watt-hour meter is removed from the socket. The manually operable by-pass device comprises a slider having a pair of contact bridges mounted on a body portion of the slider. The slider is mounted on an insulating base of the by-pass device for reciprocable movement. The bar is supported by contact brackets which are connected to line and load terminals of the meter socket, the slider being reciprocably movable to provide selective engagement between the contact brackets and the contact bridges when the watt-hour meter is removed from the socket.

    • A system and apparatus for selectively connecting one of a plurality of sources of electrical power to a load. Apparatus is furnished to be plugged in intermediate an electrical watt hour meter and the meter receptacle normally provided in a typical electrical power utilization system that is usually designed to handle a single primary source of power. The apparatus provides for selective connection of the load distribution center to the utility power line or to another source of power which might reasonably be termed an auxiliary power source. The apparatus may easily be made to be tamper proof by the inclusion of appropriate locking seals. Further provision is made for manual switching or fully automatic operation including the energization of an auxiliary source of power and connection of the auxiliary source to the input terminals of the load distribution center. Suitable devices for sensing the existence of voltage are included to provide signals indicative of a need for selectively switching the input terminals of the load distribution center between one source of power or another.
